Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
That's not Latvian or Lithuanian, but it is very familiar. Unfortunately, I can not remember what it looks like.

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
"The design seen below is of unconfirmed origins, but is believed to have been developed for Latvia around the time of its independence from the Soviet Union. Probably produced in a Russian or Ukrainian factory, black and white photographs from the period confirm the general shapes of this pattern were in use by Latvia during the 1990s. At least two color variations have been observed, however, and no verification has yet emerged as to which Latvian units may have used either one."

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
Interesting! I guess I should have checked my Latvia pictures folder more carefully, because I found pictures of the uniform There seems to be several variations in the cut and colors. I only have pictures of summer uniforms, so I can not compare against the winter jacket in your post:
1. 6 pocket Soviet style (hidden buttons)
2. 6 pocket Soviet style (exposed buttons for front closure)
3. 4 pocket Russian style (but chest pockets are pleated)

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
this is a nice jacket Rumen ... I don´t think it is Bulgarian, either ... however I think I saw a "summer style" jacket in this or very similar camo on a market here in Sofia a few weeks back ... where did you get it from?

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
I don't think it's Latvian issue. The pockets on all the early Latvian stuff I've seen are either flat pleated types (like Soviet) or pleated (like early estonian). The pocket flaps are all straight bottom edge. This jacket has "scalloped" bottom, which is like Bulgarian.
It's very common for unused military cloth to wind up as commercial items. It's possible that that is what happened with the old Latvian cloth.

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
yes Steve, you are right about the pockets, I didn´t take any notice of that before ... Maybe a few more pictures might help comrade "necrolust" to identify for sure if it is a military issue or as you said if it is a commercial issue made out of old cloth stock ...

Excellent! I hope there is some evidence inside to narrow down the possibilities.

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
It's one of the loosely related patterns that came from the Soviet era which include TTsKO/Butane and the "Moldovan" types.
The uniform was most likely made in Ukraine, and possibly exported elsewhere, but the photo I used previously, quoted above clearly does not show the same pattern. But such patterns in more familiar Latvian cut have been documented, albeit in different colours.

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
Честито Румен! Congrats Rumen! Well this definitely is a great uniform and seems to be very rare as such, too ... Now we just need to find out if it really was issued to BG Tankcrews some (well, lots of ...) years back ...

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
You guys are right, the cut is vaguely Bulgarian, I'm thinking that it's a uniform contracted from the Ukraine (biggest uniform suppliers immediately in the the post-USSR) and they just happened to be running fabrics in this Butane style print in the early 90s.
Why they would outsource these uniforms remains a mystery..

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
As evidence for Ukrainian origin I present this same camouflage used on a Soviet-spec summer Afghanka uniform, albeit in slightly darker colours.

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
Didn't want to start a new thread, but I found something that looks loosely related to Latvian "amoeba" style camouflage, in urban colours.

Re: Latvian camo made in Bulgaria?
It must have been late at night that I posted this because it has the "Moldovan" style Butane pattern. I found it in Russia.
The zippered vertical chest and main closure don't look like military features.

Spoke to the owner and it belonged to a paramilitary guard at a state-owned ammunition factory in Russia.
