I know the insignia where added later and are fake, but does anyone know the origin of the jacket itself?

All I know for sure is that it can't be German, other than that though any thoughts on it's origins? on one hand I've never really seen any uniform like it, but on the other hand it doesn't look like a reproduction of some kind (except for the insignia that is)

Actually it's not mine, but something I was thinking about buying if I could pin down it's origins, this one is a bit of a mystery, originally the guy advertised it as an Afrika Korps tunic, but it's definitely not, but at the same time it doesn't look like a reproduction (It seems well made to be a reproduction considering it's a model that the Germans never used) and it seems like either a tropical jacket of perhaps another country or possibly just a civilian jacket with fake german patches thrown on to make it look like more than it actually is, I actually like the jacket and would like to find a reason to buy it if it is an authentic vintage jacket of some nations armed forces out there

Interesting! To me it looks like a post-war West German tunic of some sort, but I can't place it. The design of the back is very distinctive. I can remember some tunic from some service that had one like this and a big elastic sewn into the two squares (on the inside) to keep the tunic tight. But I can't quite remember what it was!

For the most part post-war German tunics only have 4 chest buttons, not 5. Late 1940s and tiny bit into 1950 (as in pre 1953) there was more variety, but from what I've seen it was the traditional 6 buttons, not 5. I think some fire department stuff might have been 5 button early on.

It's possible this was bleached. Is it cotton or wool? Looks to be cotton which further confuses things because that isn't a common uniform type post-war.

There's a lot of strange stitching along the front. Makes me suspect that this is a Frankenstein jacket that was majorly modified.

    Hi Steve!

Thanks so much for your input, it's really appreciated a lot, as far as what it's made of I'm not entirely sure but I agree that it looks like cotton, and I agree with your conclusion, I noticed that looking through pictures of all these countries tropical uniforms that none really seem to match, not just for the second world war, but any time after it, but looking at civilian tropical clothing, it has the appearance of a civilian sahara jacket that was modified to make it look like it had some German connection

As cool as I think the jacket is, whoever put the fake insignia on it didn't do much homework, considering the fact that the eagle is wrong for the Afrika Korps and put higher on the chest than it was on authentic Afrika Korps jackets

Thanks again Steve for your help
