Probably some Northern European battledress jacket Empty Probably some Northern European battledress jacket

Post by Thibir Sun May 10, 2015 12:27 pm

Recently I found this jacket. I think that it might be of some Northern European country but I am not sure. Can anybody identify it? It seems more like dress uniform than combat uniform. As it has those golden insignia sewn on and also padded shoulders. It seems it is made from wool with partial cotton lining.

    Thanks for any info

    The Haeren stamp is Norwegian.

Must say never seen one like that before and the small blue/red strips on the arms look like WW2 British Army Arm Of Service Strips???

Could it be just fabric from Norwegian uniform used for fancy WWII costume/uniform replica? Because the size is for sure smaller than 54. There were two same jackets and one pair of matching trousers but I hesitated and didn´t buy it. When I returned one jacket and trousers were gone.

It seems that Slovakia flea markets have secret pact with Norwegian defense industry. Norwegian surplus is third most common (after Czechoslovak and US) here in Slovakia :-)

This is a Norwegian uniform for an army major in the engineers. This kind of uniform was used well into the 1980s and the British style service stripes was used until 1983.

    Thanks NorBn for info.

It is very nice jacket, shame I won´t fit in it. I am also mad at myself that I let the matching trousers get away :-(

Yes, that is too bad. You would have a nice complete uniform with the trousers.

First time used in 1943, so they were used for 40 years. The colour system was pretty much copied from the British, like most of the other equipment used in and just after WWII
