Post by CollectinSteve Thu Mar 31, 2016 11:56 pm

Another update to the list, with various things cleaned up, modified, and changed.  On the one hand things are becoming a lot clearer to me, on the other hand the list of uniforms I don't have has doubled since we started this discussion Sad

    M02 Desert:

1st Model = 1st pattern camo, smooth cloth, no arm pockets, use of buttons for various things. 2003 only date seen.
2nd Model = 1st pattern camo, smooth cotton, two arm pockets, heavy use of velcro. 2004 only date seen.
3rd Model = identical to above, but 2nd pattern camo and different cloth. 2006 earliest, 2008 latest seen.
4th Model (Ripstop) = identical (or pretty close to it!) to above, but ripstop cloth. 2006 earliest, 2012 latest seen.

    M98 Temperate:

Only Model? = smooth cloth, epaulets for rank, no arm pockets, use of buttons for various things. 2000 and 2001 dates seen.

    M04 Temperate:

1st Model = same as M98 except single chest epaulet for rank, no shoulder epaulets, and velcro on arms.
2nd Model (Ripstop) = seems identical to 1st Model except in Ripstop.
3rd Model = same as 1st Model except Canadian buttons and small covered buttons on shoulders for brassards. 2007 date seen.

    M04 Tropical:

1st Model = similar to M02 Desert 2nd/3rd Models except chest pockets are pleated, no lower pockets, and the right pocket has a hanger for ID badging.
2nd Model = details not established yet.
3rd Model (Ripstop) = two slant chest pockets, two arm pockets, no lower pockets. Pocket flaps are pointed. 2006 date confirmed.
4th Model (Ripstop) = similar to 3rd Model but with square pocket flaps.
5th Model = details not established yet.

    M04 Tropical (Naval):

Only Model? = same as Army M04 2nd Model (Ripstop), but in fire retardant cloth.

Question about the Naval uniform... is there any feature that makes it obviously a Navy uniform?  I assume the label inside specifies it is flame retardant?

Found a few more Norwegian pieces this week.

Trousers are not issue; they are private purchase.

Appears to be genuine  Norwegian temperate M98/M04 material and made to very high standards.
Pattern  almost mirrors itself on the front.

    Thanks Alex,

    I worked hard for these..

The M98 set is new.  The lone trousers are unbelievably well made and rugged.

Label for the trousers looks similar to  issue but clearly is  not .

    Great stuff!!

I have a set of private purchase trousers as well. IIRC I was told they were used by Home Guard along with the M78 coat.

Shorts look like they have an official label, though not sure if the blank where the date is means it's not legit.

The Blank date shield  means they were made prior to 2000.

These are early (1999 ) Pioneer made shorts and quite legit..

    Got these this week.

They were misidentified as Italian, but they are obviously Norwegian.

A bit dusty, but in new conditions and dated 1994.

0 x 2nd Model = 1st pattern camo, smooth cotton, two arm pockets, heavy use of velcro. 2004 only date seen.
0 x 3rd Model = identical to above, but 2nd pattern camo and different cloth. 2006 earliest, 2008 latest seen.

    M98 Temperate:

2 x Only Model? = smooth cloth, epaulets for rank, no arm pockets, use of buttons for various things. 2000 and 2001 dates seen.

    M04 Temperate:

1 x 1st Model = same as M98 except single chest epaulet for rank, no shoulder epaulets, and velcro on arms.
0 x 2nd Model (Ripstop) = seems identical to 1st Model except in Ripstop.
1 x 3rd Model = same as 1st Model except Canadian buttons and small covered buttons on shoulders for brassards. 2007 date seen.

    M04 Tropical:

1 x 3rd Model (Ripstop) = two slant chest pockets, two arm pockets, no lower pockets. Pocket flaps are pointed. 2006 date confirmed. The suit has mismatched sizes, jacket is small, pants are XL.

Glad to help!  This is confusing stuff, for sure Wink  Here's a very slight updated list.  Rip has a 2nd Model desert set which is dated 2003 and I found one for sale that is also 2003.  It's another black labeled "Cato Ringstad and it has no velcro on the sleeve pockets.

    M02 Desert:

1st Model = 1st pattern camo, smooth cloth, no arm pockets, use of buttons for various things. 2003 only date seen.
2nd Model = 1st pattern camo, smooth cotton, two arm pockets, heavy use of velcro. 2003 and 2004 only dates seen.

Only Model? = smooth cloth, shoulder epaulets for rank, no arm pockets, use of buttons for various things.

P.S. Rip, that's a nice piece of cloth you have in the background!

I have seen at least two more ( different ) ripstop temperate uniforms but one , at least,  may  be private purchase items.

Then there are small unit  purchases as well. Crye Precision ( and others ) does all types of custom work for small units.

Crye Precision  makes a G3 type combat uniform  and others types of uniforms  as well.

This is the custom cut; very similar to Crye P.   NWU custom items.

Me either! And now Rips' pictures are part of my personal photo stash. Come to think of it, so are a lot of Rip's uniforms Wink

Rip, that's a fantastic set! I know the Bundeswehr 3 color desert items made by Crye go for STUPID amounts of money. I tried to buy a set for a German SF guy and the price was way, way too high for him. When they come up on eBay they are several hundred Euros. Ouch.

That Crye M98 set is fantastic. Not a bad-looking cut for that pattern, either.

    Thank you guys.

Great pattern and comfortable cut.   Very lightweight ..

The cut of the blouse is vaguely similar to Crye Precision NWU Custom Navy/Army blouses.
Trousers are again cut similar to Crye P. Custom trousers , with added pockets.

Retains the basic cut, but main chest pockets are much larger and there is a large map pocket sown in under each  main pocket.

Shoulder pockets are 2 to each arm and again, quite useful.

I tarted up the blouse  a bit for the sake of scientific research.. Very Happy
