Thanks for the information. Any idea what the black and white patch on the sleeve is for?

Re: French uniform set ?
Bonjour,
This desert jacket makes me see some red lights, twinkling as a put together :
- the name tape on velcro seems to be an american or german made, not french ;
- Lieutenant rank mark is not an army or even french services issue.
It could be interesting to have a close up of the loops on the left side
Cheers
Valery

Re: French uniform set ?
If it is a Legion jacket, then it is possible to have a foreign (ie, anglo-saxon) name, no?

The name is not a problem for me but the type of name tape. In the french army, during this period you could find four types of name tape :
- strip of OD velcro hand written name with magic marker : used only during the first month by young soldiers before they receive the normal one ,
- strip of OD velcro, machine embroidered name with black letters , (first name initial.name ex: F.DUPONT)
- strip of twill sewn on velcro, german made, embroidered name with black letters without first name initial. Those name tapes were popular among 13e Régiment de Dragons Parachutistes soldiers. Usually former members of the unit kept these name tapes as veteran status
- strip of twill sewn on velcro, crudely machine embroidered name with black letters. These name tapes were made by the "petit caporal" shop at Castres at (south west of France) where the 8e Régiment de Parachutistes d'Infanterie de Marine (8e RPIMa) is located.
Later, airmen assigned at Sarajevo airport circa 1992 bought name tapes with french flag. Quickly, these locally made name tapes appeared on army chest too, used as spare or worn on flack jackets.
Definitively, the name tape on this uniform is for me a PX style name tape, highly unlikely in the french army especially in FFL.
The Daguet division SSI and the WWII american made french flag on the left sleeve are typical of the 14th july 1991 parade. During the operation, expect few men at the HQ, soldiers deployed received armband with french flags instead of the US made flags (worn in Lebanon during the early 80's or few years later in Bosnia).
Cheers

Found this photo of soldiers(I guess on parade) I see what you mean on the rank. It looks different that the one on the shirt.

Re: French uniform set ?
Bonsoir Gungadd
Sorry for the rank but it could not be a locally made worn by the FFL : the back ground is very dark or blue, only the"Troupes de Marine" have such ranks. The design is quiet different.
I have some ranks at home, I ll show you some.
Cheers

Re: French uniform set ?
As far as the name tape I don't think it is us made. I have allot of us uniforms from that era and the name tags are all different. Who knows where the name tag came from.
