    Romanian camouflage uniform designations

Post by CollectinSteve on Tue May 31, 2016 5:13 pm

I've always been a little uncertain of designations for Romanian uniforms and how variations fit into the mix. It would be great if we could work together to document what is what. Here is what I can contribute:

I am a little confused about designations. This is a good time to get more information! Here are the uniforms that I know of...

    M90 Standard (Leaf)
M90 Summer Uniform (pleated chest and arm pockets)
    M90 Summer Shirt
M90 Winter (long horizontal chest pockets with exposed buttons)

    M93 Standard (Fleck)
M93 Summer Uniform (fllat style arm and chest pockets)
    M93 Summer Shirt
M93 Winter (long horizontal chest pockets with hidden buttons)

    Hybrid M90/M93 Uniforms
M90 Summer in Leaf Fleck instead of Leaf
M90 Winter in Leaf camo instead of Fleck
M90 Summer Leaf with sewn in winter lining
M93 Summer Fleck with sewn in winter lining (I have seen this referred to as M94)
M93 Summer Leaf with two lower pockets (normal M93 has no longer pockets)
    US BDU copy in Leaf

    M2002 Temperate DPM
    M2002 Summer Uniform
    M2002 Summer Shirt
    M2002 Winter Uniform

    M2002 Desert DPM
    M2002 Summer Uniform
    M2002 Summer Shirt
    M2002 Winter Uniform

Regarding M90/M93 garments, I think that everything is correct there. I would have called simply "winter uniform" those with lining inside and "winter parka" the long jacket with detachable liner, but the sense is the same.
Also I think that existed a first ultra-rare uniform in "leaf" pattern for Militia (Jandarmeria) or something like that, designed probably in the late '80s in the old romanian (communist-era) cut. I don't know if it was just an experimental uniform or if it was distributed in semi-large number (I would say the first).I posted already the photo long time ago but I put it again here.
    I haven't understand just this:

M93 Summer Leaf with two lower pockets (normal M93 has no longer pockets)
    US BDU copy in Leaf

Are they two different garments? I recall for sure the "bdu" copy, I miss the previous one (if it's a distinct one).

There are two variants in the M93 camouflage. The first type is, as you say, identical to M90. The second one is slightly different with hidden buttons for the chest pockets. I do not know if there are other differences.

Ah yes!! Thank you for the reminder of this. I have your picture saved from the first time you posted it Wink

I think you are correct! I have pictures of trousers which are almost identical copy of US BDU. Does it go with the 4 pocket jacket? Is this called the M94 uniform?
