    F1 steel helmet variations

Post by belgium_one on Sat Jun 11, 2016 12:12 pm

    Hello Smile

the most importants variations of the F1 helmet concern the liner and the chinstrap :

The pad , earlier model (circle) and late model (star) . The left helmet manufactured in 1982 end the right one , 1990 .

the chinstrap , early and late models

    the chinstraps

    Hello  Smile

helmet fitted with the french army "salade" , held in place with car rubber door seal

to find the rubber seal , I visited a local car dealer and he allowed me to remove it from a twingo 1 wreck , for free

from this car , a part has to be removed with a cutter

Here are some photos of my 1991 dated F1 that i acquired a few years back When I got it the Chinstrap was a total wreck I tred to get another but they are more expensive than the pot, I found in the US what was advertised on ebay as an experimental 3 point strap for the PSAGT that only needed slight modification to fit the F1 and bonus it is very comfortable. The exterior of the of the pot is fitted with a standard center euro camo cover with sewn on rubber ring.

I agree Graham regarding prices of the chinstraps, managed to track an early one down from France a few years back and cost me a lot more than complete helmets are going for these days.
