ACU jacket with sew-on qual/name tapes

found this Acu jacket with sew-on qualification and name tape and rank.Are these still rare??im not a big acu fan but i bought it anyway coz u dont see many jacket like this. here are the pic:

Could it have been a helicopter pilot jackets?(seen the qualification badges)
any info is welcome,thx very much.

Very odd. As far as I know it was against regulations to sew the badging on directly.

The uniform is badged for someone who served in the 101st Airborne. The qualifications badges are for jump and helicopter assault. The 101st is the only regular unit that routinely has its personnel undergo that sort of training.

The uniforms themselves are still very easy to get and will be for a long time.

Ive seen a few with the patches sewn on. What the significance is? Not sure. Here's a pic from the one I dug out of storage. Dated '05

Steve - That was true for the first several years of the ACU, pin on badges only, everything else velcro. However in 2011 the Army issued a directive that allowed sew on rank, qualification badges and name tapes. http://www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/content/docs/Changes_to_Wear_of_Army_ACU.pdf

Ah! You know, I think I remember that now. An answer to the soldiers complaining about the velcro being both uncomfortable and not all that useful?

I've certainly not been paying too much attention to ACUs over the past few years. Doesn't seem to be much point, but I guess there is still a few things to learn. Or remember
