Unknown Uniform Egyptian? Syrian? Empty Unknown Uniform Egyptian? Syrian?

The armband and beret are Egyptian internal security, but the uniform I have no idea about, at first I thought it was an Egyptian uniform from the Israeli wars but upon looking at pictures of Egyptian soldiers, they didn't seem to use the two button pocket design on field uniforms, Syrian seemed more likely but in all honesty I have no clue

Anyone have any idea about the origins of the uniform? (besides the armband and beret which I already know are Egyptian internal security) thanks!

The shirt is in the style used by Syrian forces. Egyptian military forces, at least, use single button pockets. Not sure if that's relevant, but could be a lead.

Not necessarily. When I was in Egypt, I visited the military museum in Cairo, and they had a few models depicting such a uniform being used during the Yom Kippur War.

Nice picture!  When the United Arab Republic existed I'm sure there was a lot of sharing between Syria and Egypt, so that makes sense.  From a quick check it seems that for the field uniform Egypt dropped the two button style, but for other things it did not.  Check out Sisi...

Note that his shirt has the cut corners rather than straight corners. That's probably significant, though I don't know how.

At the very least it probably confirms the shirt in the original post is Egyptian.  Whether it's Army or internal services... I haven't a clue Wink

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I noticed too that some of their dress uniforms have that two pocket configuration ( I have one like Sisi's albeit with significantly less ribbons and adornments) and always figured that this was Egyptian too, the guy I bought it from said he bought it in Egypt in 1985, I just always believed that it was a 1973 Yom Kippur War era field shirt (and the only 1973 era Egyptian uniform I've ever seen for sale) but had second thoughts after looking at pics of Egyptian soldiers during the Sinai crossing, then I did find a couple pics of Egyptians with this two button configuration but their uniforms seemed to be made out of like a thicker/heavier cotton or something, this is EXTREMELY light weight, super thin almost toilet paperesque cotton, but what can I say, I know next to nothing about Egyptian uniforms whatsoever and just thought it looked awesome as I love everything that has a sandish/desert color to it.

I suspect you have what would best be described as a "service shirt", which would be very consistent with internal security personnel. The shirts worn by German Police and BGS, for example, are also paper thin. A field shirt would most likely be in heavier cloth. Considering that Egypt is a source of cotton they would likely use it whenever possible.

I'm very late to this thread, but yes, that uniform is Egyptian. It's one of several varieties worn by Interior Ministry (police, Central Security Forces) conscripts during the 1980s and 1990s -- NOT by the military. There were multiple variations in things like pockets (one button, two button, no flaps), stitching, should straps or lack thereof, etc. And I agree that they are absolutely horribly-made. You practically cannot touch them without them falling apart in your hands.
