My only Norwegian loadout Empty My only Norwegian loadout

Post by michelwijnand Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:48 pm

Just made this loadout last week after my order from Forsvarsbrukt finally arrived.
    I really can't reccommend them.
I started this order before the summervacation and every reply took ages of waiting, and beginning of October they finally shipped, and I got the
trackingcode a week after I asked for it.
When I started the order I thought I could complete this set before my vacation with the last things I needed from them (and some extras I wanted),
but only last weekend could I finally photograph it.

I'd probably date this mid-1980's - late 1990's, unless someone tells me that's wrong, then I'll change that.
I heard the camo jackets came mostly into use in the mid-80's, and late-90's is just a guess at when at least some piece of gear would be updated.
Sets of this fieldgear at least show up in pics taken in the Balkans, so they probably kept it until the late 90's. If anyone can definately say until when
this would be correct, I'm open to any info!

    M58 helmet with net
    M75 parka in camouflage
M75 camo parka hood (in pocket)
    Visekorporal rankslides
    Green M75 pants
Late type US M36 belt suspenders in transitional colors
    Green US M36 belt
    2 AG3 double magazinepouches (2nd type)
    AG3 bayonet
Shovelpouch (Norwegian made US M43 type)
Folding shovel (US, postwar Norwegian repainted)
Plastic canteen in nylon pouch (any type designation for this type?)
Gasmask in bag (Norwegian made US M9 type)
    M53 small backpack
    M77 boots

    In the background:
    M75?? winter hat
    M?? gaiters
Wooden tent herring (should have been 3 in my order)
Wooden tent pole (should have been 2 in my order)
    M?? large backpack

I do want to add a tent half sometime, but during the time the shop took to finalize my order, they were sold out...

Another awesome ensemble, well done! I am also in the middle of assembling a 1980's Norwegian infantryman's kit, but I hit a snag in that I'm still looking for the trousers, shovel/pouch, and gas mask to have a bare minimum kit. I was excited when you mentioned Forsvarsbrukt but since you don't recommend them, I guess I'll have to keep looking.
That M53 pack is a nice find, I have not seen one for sale anywhere. Those Telemark rucksacks are a work of art.

Thanks! I know all about hitting snags with Norwegian kit, so I'm glad you like it!

1 Of the wrst problems with the shop though, is that if you're outside of Norway you'll habve to order through email, and somehow all email ends up in sme spam folder or whatever, and they'll just answer it a month later or so.
It's sad since they have pretty much everything for a full set, and for good prices too!

The M53 pack randomly turned up in a surplus shop here in Holland, while I wasn't planning on getting one for this loadout, I couldn't refuse it since they practically gave it away, and the big packs turn up much more over here. Those things are some real quality though!

I had the same unhappy experience with that dealer - they have a very broad stock, and will happily accept your order and take your money, but then they seem to forget all about shipping the stuff. There was no problem with email communications before I paid, but after I paid, suddenly my messages don't get through?

Nate, I may have a spare shovel carrier if you are still looking for one. Drop me a PM if interested.

Regarding the packs, it is interesting that the larger ones turn up everywhere on both sides of the ocean, but the smaller ones hardly ever seem to show up outside of Norway, as far as I can tell.

I have two of the shelter halves (O.G.) but I want 1 more. The shelter made from 2 units is a little small and I am only 5'7", I wonder how the tall Norwegians handle this. A 3 unit shelter would be larger. The shelter half is a unique diamond shape, made of heavy canvas but would make a good winter tent. Diagrams of the various set-ups are stamped on the shelter itself. There is a manual of winter bivouacing on the internet called "UD 6-81-6 Instruction in Winter Service - Bivouac" in english which describes a 3 unit shelter, which is not shown on the shelter itself. One of the pole sections broke during high winter winds here in Canada, but I can use a substitute, perhaps. I really like their camo pattern as well.

Tim, I have one of the unusual US-made versions of the Norwegian diamond shelter half. It is identical except that the instructions printed on the canvas are in English. If you are interested, drop me a PM. I live in Ontario as well.
