That looks like a British type B166 ammunition box, which carried a range of different loads, including if I recall correctly ammunition for the 6-pounder AT gun.

Yes, I can't remember the code number, but this is also a British box, used for mines. The lid is missing of course.

Here are a couple of clean examples of the boxes you have found. B166 could be used to carry 3-Inch Mortar Bombs
and M152 was for Mk V Contact Anti-Tank Mines.
