I bought this as British Army PECOC trial but think it may be American?

It's not American military issue of any sort, but there are a lot of US companies that produce plate carriers for law enforcement, overseas contractors, etc. What makes you think this is US in particular?

Grasping is about all us non-gearheads can do when it's something like this There's so much of this stuff floating around out there that it really takes a specialist to know what's what.

Funny, I heard rumors this was used by SAS. Saw one or two pics of similar, but obviously not identical pieces. Also, if you look at those internal plate carriers, looks more like those tiny Brit plates which fit in the MKII armors, although this is just based on what I can see from photos.
