My guess is the German type was first simply because it would be odd for them to pass over an existing model (BW type), modify it to another type (French type), then go back to the original.  It also doesn't make sense to have two different models in full production concurrently.

Schuberth (note the H at the end) is Germany's most prolific and longest running helmet manufacturers. Er, at least I can't think of another that beats them.

Seems to me German liner came first, Then there were some conversions done to fit the French liner. After this came more with german liner which retained the German liner but with an added leather loop to form a chin cup that was not part of the original German liner.

How common is it to see Canadian manufactured Brodies repurposed by the Belgians?

I haven't come across a Canadian one yet, but I see very few Belgian Mk II helmets to begin with. Still, there is no reason to doubt that quite a few Canadian-made helmets should have reached Belgian hands after the war, given the amount of equipment overall that was passed to Belgium and to the Netherlands at that time.

    Those are two great helmets.

Recently bought an M49 Belgian MKII helmet myself and mine also has no recess in the crown for the liner screw/bolt but cannot see any stamped markings to the shell.
