How many people here know that Magellan was killed by local Cebu leader Lapu Lapu? I only found out about it when I started researching what historical sites there are to see in Cebu. Pretty interesting sites to visit while in Cebu so if you ever get the chance to go, seize it! And try the lechon; I have to agree with Camosaurus, it is better there than anywhere else in the Philippines!

Re: The Death of Magellan
Anybody want to visit the resort City of Cebu, Philippines. Let me know. If I'm in town, I will show you guys around and visit some military surplus shops here.
"Lechon" (Roasted Pig) is on me. Swag is right. Lechon here is better than anywhere else in Cebu.
Swag, I wonder if you've seen the local chieftain "Lapu-Lapu" Sword in Fort San Pedro?

Howdy Stuka! I visited Ft. San Pedro but I don't recall seeing Lapu-Lapu's sword. Of course we didn't have a tour guide with us so we may have inadvertently walked right by it.
Camosaurus is the one who gave me in the info about the lechon, he was right, it's some good stuff there in Cebu!

yeah yeah..because you went to Cebu when I was still away!
But really, I went to Lapu-lapu shrine few months ago after many years and was surprised on how it was now so well maintain. It pays to have a local as National Tourism Secretary, ey? I suggest you come in time when they commemorate the battle of Mactan Island. There will be battle reenactment.

Re: The Death of Magellan
April 27. Photo below you'll see Boxing hero Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao played Lapu-Lapu back in 2008. He got everyone thinking if it was a left hook or right that actually killed Magellan.. but it was quiote dramatic because Pacman declined Telent Fee for his role.
Pacman and wife Jingky
These are always commemorated in the same battle ground in Lapu-Lapu shrine just a stone throw away from Shangrila's Resort Hotel.
Enjoy!
