MOLLE FLC II Vest Question Empty MOLLE FLC II Vest Question

Post by nkomo Sat Oct 17, 2009 11:34 pm

I picked up some new gear that belonged to Sgt. Taft (3rd ACR grouping in the Bragging Rights section). I found his DCU colored FLC vest today and noticed something odd about it when I got it home. He has installed the waist belt BACKWARDS!!!! Now....I thought that someone else had put it back together wrong, but that is not the case. The dirt/grime markings indicate it has been used this way in combat. When the SAW pouches and canteen pouches are placed on the vest, it is very difficult to unzip the set-up to take off. The way it is set-up is that all you have to do is to unbuckle the back and slip it off. Very practical in my honest opinion. My question is this....has anyone heard of this set-up before? Thanks!!!

Me either. Very odd set-up to say in the least. However, it does appear to be a legitimate modification.

Yep. That was a pretty common "mod",and quire a few had done that. As you said, makes it much easier to put on and take off. In facr, where ever mine is, it is the same as youu mention. If I find it I will take a pic for you if you want.

    Nkomo,

From what I remember,it was a fairly common mod for all,or,at least those who thought it was a good idea and wanted to take the time to do it. Altho not "hard",it did take a few minutes, and perhaps some had better things to do during their downtime. I dont know who first thought of it,or if it was thought of stateside,or OCONUS,but I amd those in my company at least did it. I saw our battalion SGM had done it,and upon talking to him and asking why he did it,seemed to make sense to me,so I brought the idea back, and it caught on with the rest of the company and detachments/CATA and CATB teams. As a matter of fact,in looking,I had done my ACU one the same way. Even tho the ACU crap wasnt worn and most of us had aftermarket chest rigs and plate carriers, and being a SOCOM unit, were issued the CIRAS,we also got RFI issued ACU stuff too, which we were allowed to keep even tho we diddnt use it-uncle sugar's tax dollars at work-just like every time you deploy(ed),you were issued a "new" ACH. I had 7 helmets, and you could not turn them in-no one wanted or would take them, yet,at the time,it was illegal to sell them or amy components for them?!? When restrictions on selling was finally relaxed,I have sole 3 on ebay for about $275-350 (dep.on if it had NVG bracket and "custom camo" paint). i will never be disappointed on the stupidity of the gov. I remember surplus stores at Ft Bragg and Benning had helmets lined up on the curb, about 300 of 'em,but no one would touch them due to CID!! The drug dealers and other "urban" undesireables got some, but the store owners could not have them in the shop, but CID wouldnt take them-catch 22. stupid
