U.S. Army M16 A2 Training Aid Weapon Empty U.S. Army M16 A2 Training Aid Weapon

Hi i know its not a uniform really but wasnt sure where to post this...

I just picked up four of these guys at a local Navy SEAL's garage sale (lol). I missed out on a lot of of good gear but these were left for $10 a pop. Took a chance. Apparently he got these on a training det. If i did my research right they are from the US Army Training Command at Fort Knox.

Does anyone know more about these? Most of the gun is hard rubber but the stock appears to be wood or have a piece of wood inserted in the end as a buttstock cap. Also the front end barrel/front sight/front sling all appear to be real steel; metal for sure! Barrel has been plugged and no flashhiders attached to them.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Oh and anything think if i gave it a proper coat of red paint it will hurt the value? Or should i leave them be?

They're "Rubber Duckies". Essentially they're a dummy weapon for training when you want realism without the need for a real weapon or there is an increased chance of damaging a weapon (bayonet training). The barrel is a real barrel. They're shot out (coded out) barrels that have been used for two reasons. One, to help replicate the weight of the weapon. Two, to be able to do bayonet training. This is the first one I've seen without the flash suppressor. Can't put a bayonet on a barrel without it. I've never seen them painted in TRADOC units before but more than likely was done to make it visible when some private lost it. We had yellow ones at SFAS in North Carolina. Done for the same reason. But if you lost it there you might as well hang it up.

All that I've seen didn't seem to have any wood in them but I can't garauntee that. All I remember is resin and barrel (and the fargin things stink like CS gas forever once you go into the chamber).

Can't figure out why a SEAL would have training aid from FT Knox TASC (Training Aid Support Center). They do (or did) some riverine training there on the Ohio out in my training area in the past but, like special ops anywhere, they used real weapons.

If you picked them up for $10 each you came out good, even with the red paint. The lowest I've ever been able to find them is $50 and the last one I saw on Craigslist here in Colorado Springs was for $75. I wouldn't paint it myself. But that's coming from an Infantryman that lived with a black one when we didn't have our A2's or A1's (I've been in a while). Honestly, if it were me, and I got four of them for less than one costs, I'd try and find a stripper (like mineral spirits, not Cinnamon Twisted Evil ) that is safe to use on resin and get it back to it's original state.

All in all, I'd call it a great find for a great price. Guys love them cause they can display a weapon without it being a real firearm.

Forgot to add that there are different types of rubber duckies out there also. Both US and foreign weapons. I've always wanted an SVD but $300 for a plastic weapon that was going to hang on my wall always seemed a bit high for me.

I have one of the AK versions in my collection. Came from a man who advised some of the Costa Rican Security Forces and Nicaraguan Contras.

Thanks for the info! I knew they were used for "safe" training but i just wasnt sure what i had exactly because i figured they'd all be rubber and no metal. I got plenty of airsoft M4 flash hiders laying around and im sure they'll fit Wink i THINK that the seal painted them after he got home because he didnt want them mistaken for a real gun, so he quicky throw some paint on them. I was just thinking of getting some of that plastic/metal spray paint and just throwing a full coat of red on one and see how it comes out.

He wanted $10 a piece but i think it worked out cheaper lol. I got 2 rigger belts, ESS fan googles, one set of DCU gortexs, a HALO jump suit, 2 modified tan tru-spec blouses, an ACU combat shirt and a 84mm Gustaf ammo box for $80 lol. He had a bunch of LBT and Blackpack packs, IR strobes, pouches etc and a guy beat me there by 5mins and took em all Sad

Anyway, i found out the guy is actually a Corpsman assigned to the Team. He was also in a riverine unit so maybe thats where he got these like u said.

Corpsman and, possibly, SWCC (Special Warfare Combat-craft Crewman) sounds more credible. All in all, sounds like a great find.

Don't know enough about airsoft to know how the parts and pieces work but the threading on an AR barrel for the muzzle is 1/2" x 28.

Can't help with the buttstock on the two. I'd say not finined properly but don't know. I've never seen them like that.

Did anyone leave anything left? Since moving to Ft Carson, CO, the amount of stuff on the streets has grown immensely.

Well he's with ST2 now so i dunno, either way he's a bad-azz guy! haha. Tried the flashhider thing and nope, didnt work. oh well. No biggie.

What do u mean by anything left? As in his garage sale? If so prob not. Most of the really good stuff got bought up a few mins before i got there! I was talking to him over email a few days before and he was like, come at 9am and we'll deal. Well got their at 855am and some dude already had a pile of Blackhawk Medical packs, LBT packs, IR strobes, Pocket Garmin/Radio, Misc pouchs, gortex etc Sad Most of the stuff he had left were what i got and some basic woodland and dcu cammies. No AOR1 of course haha.

Asked him about his Team and what they are wearing and they are mostly wearing PCU undershirts made by Patagonia and they had some of the Crye AOR1 stuff but now i guess Patagonia is a big contractor and they're making them now. I was trying to work the angles for some AOR1/AOR2 gear haha

I'd like to find one of those, don't have a 16.
I've picked up several at the flea market or at gun shows here in Colo Spgs.
I've got an RPK, Strella anti aircraft missle, RPG 7 and another, but I'm blank as to what.
I'd like to find an AK, RPD, RPG 2, Garand & M 14 among others.

Well i tried stripping some of the thicker red paint off one of the guns. Sort of worked but it dried out the rubber a bit (turned whitish). So i grabbed some ultra flat black plastic spray paint and gave it a quick coat. Needs a few more coats but i think it turned out pretty good! Taking all the paint off to its natural rubber finish seems impossible so this looks a lot better than the half-azz red paint job the past owner put on! Let me know you're thoughts Smile
