This is a very rare and expensive bit of kit to get a hold of. The supply is tightly controlled.

The Belgians finally got around to producing subdued desert badging for these uniforms a couple of years ago. The damned name tags are very hard to get (I don't have any!) because the Belgian military makes the tags for its soldiers and they only get 6. These are supposed to go on their issued kit. If they aren't issued desert kit they don't get the tags. I can't find used tags either.

According to my records, August 2007 Very Happy I forgot you were one of the lucky ones that I managed to score a set for. I think I had a total of 3 full sets and 2 extra shirts. It took me 2 more years to get a boonie, and it cost me an arm and a leg. Damned worthless US Dollar!

The used stuff is finally making it onto the collector's market in enough numbers to keep the prices down. When I got my first set people were paying EUR 120 or more for a used set. The new ones are still difficult to get, I think. Boonies are damned near impossible to get.

DESERT camouflage uniform Empty Belgian Reversible Desert/temperate Fleece

Post by fourtycoats Mon May 09, 2011 12:37 pm

I do not usually post new acquisitions but this fleece is one of the nicest bits of kit I have seen in a while. It is fully reversible with pockets on both sides and is made of Gore "windstopper" material, so it is functional as well as smart.

That's a neat bit of kit. I like that it's reversible.

Found this shorts in a local thrift shop today. Although it has SEYNTEY label, but no "ABL" marking. What do you think - is it commercial? Was ever desert shorts introduced for the Belgian Army?

ABL means Algemeen Belgisch Leger wich means Belgium Army.

Correct. I checked a number of official issue items from the last 5-8 years and there are no ABL marks on the tags.

Very nice to see fully badged examples! The name tapes are especially difficult to find. I managed to get a full uniform a few months after they were first worn in Afghanistan, but I still do not have a nametape for my set Sad If you have a spare please PM me. I have a lot of spare Belgian items I could trade for one in very good to new condition.

Very beautiful desert uniform, and all the better with the great patches.

I have quite a few Belgian pieces, but the desert version has thus far eluded me.

At least I did manage to find one of the blue EUFOR Tchad/RCA patches, so the hunt goes on..

    Thanks for posting..

I'll take a look in militaria sale show here if I can find one for you, but I cannot promise because they are hard to come even here... I've already seen the "Belgium" tape alone. Right now, I only have some subdued ranks in double (in desert and "woodland"), and also some shoulder patches (old style-ISAF)
