Here is a really decent M-5 flak helmet I just found on Ebay. The chinstrap is missing, but the liner is in pretty good shape. All for 31.00 bucks.

Might be for hanging up while in the airplane or locker. I think that is what it is for or to put wires through. Thats my guess

Seen these used in Korea but tank crews as opposed to wearing the WW2 tanker helmet. You look like a Viking if you wear it with the ear flaps up
