Some recent British finds, and some questions, Part 2! Empty Some recent British finds, and some questions, Part 2!

Post by michelwijnand Sun Aug 20, 2017 12:18 pm

Yesterday I cleared some more stock out of 2 shops here in Holland, some quite rare stuff turns up here. Some of it again from KM stocks,
others just in large surplus loads the shops bought.

First up No1 Mk3 NBC smock and pants, p58 2nd type water bottle pouch, p58 4th pattern magazine pouches, p68 (?) "crap hat", a bungee,
nylon SLR sling, Snow gaiters Mk2.
I've read that the NBC suit had to be packed into the poncho roll, but it doesn't fit at all, did they first unpack them from the sealed bags?
Any idea what year the 4th type pouches came into use?

Some recent British finds, and some questions, Part 2! Dsc03715

"Chinese fighting suit" cold weather liners, were these meant to be worn under just any suit, or were they specific to a certain type? I also have
a sleeveless version for the combat smock, so I'd like to find out where this one should go in.

Some recent British finds, and some questions, Part 2! Dsc03722

CT4B contract (so between 79-85) Windproof Arctic smock and (unreadable contract) trousers. Early version with rank loops on both sides.

If anyone has a descriptive list of versions of the Windproof and Windproof Arctic suits and what year they should be, I'd appreciate a share, so
that I can more accurately date the trousers and some others I have.

Pattern ?? lightweight trousers, and pattern 84 (?) Para Smock badged to 2nd Para.
There were LtWt trousers there with and without the cargo pockets but of the same CT4B contract, any idea what that's about?

Some recent British finds, and some questions, Part 2! Dsc03718

Pattern 72 (?) Tropical shirt and HM Supplies made Windproof Smock.
Is the 72 year correct, or was it part of the p68 issue?
And any idea when abouts HM Supplies made these smocks, and if this is official or commercially bought?

MTP Mk7 2nd type helmet cover, DDPM Mk6 helmet cover (1st Gulf War era), early S6 gasmask bag modified to go on a belt,
reversible rank armlet (looks to be p68 DPM), unit patched boonie hat from the 80's, tagless shortbrimmed boonie hat, p68
boonie hat (A/78 contract). The rest is Dutch stuff, though I'm unsure of the lower goggles.
Any idea on the unit of the top boonie?

Smooth paint Mk6 helmet with a twist, look at the liner. I've seen just 1 other like it, with the mesh crown suspension, and an
extra lump portruding of the liner at the front. This one also has velcro inside the rear of the shell to attach a nape protector.
My theory is that these could have been meant specifically for use with a visor, either EOD or riot type, and that the different liner
was for the added weight of the visor and nape protector.
If anyone has more info on these, please share.

P68 cold weather parka, modified with a large waterproof pocket on the inside, and possibly extra inner cuffs, though those might be normal (?).
No I just have to find the right type and size liner...

Sadly the bag is way too small for that. If it were the Dutch spin-off of this bag type, it could fit, those are bigger.
But the official contents of the S6 bag are seen here, though it probably wasn't always carried like that.

Thanks, some good info on there!

Me and Wolverine have both tried to get the NBC suit into a poncho roll, but it's an extremely tight fit even without the overboots, and the suit sticks out the sides a lot. Was there a special way to roll them or something?

Hm, I'll bust out one of my spare poncho rolls tomorrow. I've been trying with an early type roll until now, I'll try with a late one too, maybe they also changed the size of them along with adding an extra D-ring

Some more stuff from the last few days.

Kangol 1992 para beret, para beret with tag removed (might not be British at all, but both were dirtcheap anyway), old type para wings, rest in this photo is not British.
I might have another earlier para beret on the way too.

And my older para beret arrived, it has the older clip-on badge, and according to the contract number it should be made in 1971 or 72.

The West German berets usually have a half circle shaped stiffener sewn in where the badge would sit.

Yeah this one doesn't have that, but it may have been removed like the tag. I will see some more berets to see if the sewing shape of the removed tag is the same.
It's like a large circle with one flat spot, and there below it is a triangle, a bit of a parachute shape. And in the middle of the circle-ish part is a small rectangle.

And got something else, a painted Gentex ACH that came from British SF.

Quite an impressive bunch of finds!!

I agree that the beret looks to be BRD. I know the picture posted isn't high resolution, but it kinda looks like I can see the outline of the German FJ badge that used to be on there. In any case, look for 4 prong holes. If this thing was ever used by the Germans, there will be four holes there to find if you look closely enough.

Thanks! I'll be getting more random stuff in the coming times, to fill some holes in my British collection.

The beret did have the 4 prongs, I already threw it in my pile of German berets to wait until I randomly come across a cheap badge sometime.

And here's some more British stuff again.

General Ops vest, 1st Para TRF, p72 (?) link bandoleer

Some random British stuff mixed in here (among other countries), straps etc. The sling at the right is a wider British type,
probably some foreign copy, no idea where from.

Thanks, I've been researching into that, and only found the DZ flashes worn upright on caps etc. in confirmed para photos. Still no idea what this should then be though, maybe some affiliated unit?
Like how there's para trained engineers or whatever wearing maroon berets with different badges than the para one.

And yes that's the 2nd type PASGT donut pad. Now I'm looking for the para neck pad and the foam impact liner, but I keep seeing them only in US or Canada based shops with outrageous shippingcosts.
One in Canada would charge $100 just for shipping such a $7 item...

In this pic just the helmet cover, it's contract number makes this a very early one if I am correct, though I'd have to wait until
