Para snipers smock

Hi all
It is well known that in this conflict involved the feared snipers. You can see some pictures of these sharpshooters carrying their L1A1 with night vision system or L42 rifles, special weapons for this purpose, until then everything is clear. The question arises when I acquired a piece in the show Ciney that, first of my head right off. It was a pretty paratrooper jacket padded modified fillers, reinforcements on elbows, pockets displaced and small strips of cloth to foliage. Examined the label, I could see the word sniper, leaving no doubt, is a garment manufacturing, aimed at the regiment selected shooters. It shows very well the camo pattern 68 so that everything fits. Should have served in the Falklands! However, I did not see or find image or text to verify it. In any case it is a rare and attractive piece, so I have the pleasure to share it with friends on the forum. regards

Hi Jesus - nice pictures - thanks. Yours is a very early example of the Sniper Smock. I have included some pics below of a trails example I acquired some years back. SCRDE stands for 'Stores & Clothing Research & Development Establishment'. I cannot recall seeing another example with the old 1-9 sizing on the label which makes me think that as the smocks went into production it was just as the sizing changed over to metric.

But just because it has the same camo used on the '68 equipment doesn't mean it's P68 and doesn't necessarily mean it was used in the Falklands, however who ever this smock belonged to was in a Corps not and infantry unit; note'A Sqdn Demo' - Engineers?

A flat metal hook. Aids in stabilising the sling, which is used as a marksmanship aid.

And they must cut them off because they snag on nearly everything the soldier walks past. Well, except for beer and women. Because if they snagged either or both of those, they'd be sewing more on not cutting them off

Unfortunately, it seems to be missing the lower skirt pockets, however, close inspection of the garment makes it very hard to discern whether they were there in the first place ...

Nope 94 short run stuff that was ditched as general issue to all and used afterwards only in para and sniper smocks.
