Musta missed this first time around ... me likey. I have a few modern Italian uniforms but really must get off my ass and get Consubin example ...

I also don't understand all the different cuts for Italian uniforms ... it's not as if they're destined for the catwalks of Milan ... (are they?!)

There are quite a few different manufacturers for Italian camouflage uniforms, both foreign, and Italian.

The Naval patterns were made in much smaller batches due to the relatively small numbers  of  personnel  that wore these patterns.

I have garments from at least 3 different makers in these patterns, and there are others..

With the entire Armed Forces of Italy going to  Vegetato type  patterns,  there will be  more  Italian Navy patterns   to drool over in the near future..

Italian uniforms  may not be destined for the catwalks of Milan, but they are definitely cut much different than what we in the US are used to.. affraid

    COMSUBIN

This set looks similar to the San Marco set I posted awhile back, but does  has variations in colors.
Have not seen  Italian Navy uniforms manufactured by this contractor before .

IIRC there are four major variations. There are some who swear up and down that the color differences were deliberate (Mountain and Beach or the two common names), but it is more likely to be production variations. The older M29 type used by the Navy has even more color variations, so no way to argue those were deliberate.

I really like these uniforms. I have a 98-dated set, but I can`t figure out the fabric used on the trousers; it`s somewhat elastic.

Yup, the elastic content is really odd. Unique to this uniform as far as I have seen. I have a set that I wear around for the heck of it and they are super comfortable.

The BSM emblem on the right pocket comes in two forms: direct embroidery and sewn on patch. I was told by an Italian collector/dealer that they abandoned the direct embroidery method fairly early on when they realized there was a lot of cost savings to have with sharing the same uniform within the Navy in general. Instead it is easier to issue the uniforms as needed to BSM and then sew on a mass produced badge. Similar to how the Spanish and US Marines Woodland are standard uniforms with a black stencil print over the breast pocket. Spanish Legion used to have embroidered epaulettes and they moved to slip ons instead. I'm sure other countries do the same thing.

How many different cuts of the San Marco spray uniforms are there, ignoring the COMSUBIN specials?

    R...

I count 4 distinctly different cuts in my collection.

There are more; probably not more than one or two at most. Also, there are private purchase..

The majority of cuts tend to be just like the one you posted; very nice, BTW...

I almost snagged a green set once...

How many spray type uniform cuts? I have 4 unique cuts of the temperate type, but I do not have the current issue so that makes 5. I also have the orange looking desert uniform which is in a unique cut and the current desert type which is the same as the current temperate. So that is a total of 6 uniform cuts.

There is also at least one (I bet more than that) minor variations in the common type. The variant has metal drain grommets at the bottom of the pockets. The cloth of the jackets comes in at least two variants, perhaps three. One is distinctly heavier and has a different weave than the other.

I looked around and it appears that there are indeed two variations of the standard slant pocket:

The late type has grommets in the corners of the pockets and velcro over the right chest pocket, the earlier version has neither.

Thanks JD.  Love these old MM/SM patterns.

Being that these are the last types to be used before the switch to Vegetato, they are still fairly accessible.

Have been  looking for a set in the previous cut for some time; blouses are not too difficult, but sets are not at all easy to find.

[quote="CollectinSteve"]I looked around and it appears that there are indeed two variations of the standard slant pocket:

After looking at the slant pocket type uniforms in my collection, I am now more than certain there are not 2 versions of that uniform.  I am confident that the appearance of differences are only due to fading and maybe fabric differences..

There are 3 officially issued types of SM/MM  uniforms of which this type is the last.  I have now accumulated 4 blouses of the last issue and there seems to be no major differences among them despite the different contract years.

Moreover, the pattern is the same as that used on the  previous type ( the 2nd ).

These last 2 types of uniforms have the camouflage pattern printed on both inside and outside of the garments while the first type is only printed on the outside of the garments and is  known to have been issued in a variety of slightly different colors, most likely due to the many different contractors.

I have spoken to a former member of SM and he said that when issued the first type uniforms , often  jacket and  trousers would not necessarily match.

I believe the 2nd and 3rd types were made to consolidate the different hues into one universal pattern .

Following photo shows ( 4  of ) the 3rd type .  The next one shows the 4 blouses and one of the 2nd type. I believe it clearly shows that the patterns are the same.

The blouses have a contract date of '05, '06, and '09 in order .  The last one is missing the tag and was washed only a few times.

The second from left is in new conditions while the 3rd one has been washed a few more times and has a redder hue than the others.
