Yugoslavian Field Jacket (?) Empty Yugoslavian Field Jacket (?)

    Post by AndrewA74 Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:14 pm

    Hello,
This was a snag from a local Goodwill. Thanks to the guys for helping me to ID it so quickly and politely. I can't get a clearer picture of the tag, it looks better in the picture than in real life, trust me. Enjoy.
    Andrew

PS: Would it be correct to call this a field jacket?

Naming conventions aren't all that clear, but here are my rules of thumb:

Field Jacket - medium weight, general seasonal use, no hood (or if it has one it's hidden or detachable)
Parka - heavier weight, used only for winter, hood, generally thigh length

There are so many different things out there it's really not possible to generalize them accurately. To one collector a jacket is a parka, to another it is a smock, to another it's a coat, etc. Another way of saying "your milage may vary" Smile

The Jugoslav items I'm familiar with make me think of this thing as a Field Jacket. But it's not something I'm familiar with so without seeing the other items issued alongside it I can't say for sure.

This jacket was a regular part of uniform for soldiers, and war uniform for NCO's and officers.

Yugoslavian Field Jacket (?) Empty JNA Vjetrovka

Post by Jugosloven Mon May 14, 2012 6:49 pm

    Hello,

This is a former JNA (Yugoslavian Peoples Army) m-77 field winter jacket or cooler weather parka (vjetrovka)i.e "wind jacket'. These replaced the heavy winter woolen trench coats for the conscripts and other unitswhen designed in 1977 but were generally mainly used from 80s until the war. They are made from 50% cotton and 50% polyester. They usually have hood that ca be attached on the back, belt, and aswell as a liner which is de attachable. I have a few I kept from the war. They are very god jackets.

    Thank you for sharing!
