New British MTP Camouflage pattern to Replace DPM.

British MOD announced today that they will be phasing out the well used DPM and Desert DPM for a new pattern, this pattern was developed by Crye Precision to work the same as Multicam, but keep a distinctive "British" look to it.

I know some people will mourn the loss of DPM, but it is always good for a new pattern to arrive...unless it is ACU...

My guess is that MultiCam is now out as a US Army replacement for UCP. Although MTP isn't MultiCam, it sure has the same look about it!

So I guess anybody who got PECOC stuff are sitting on some of the rarest Brit kit in all history. I wish I was one of them!

Oh, I should say that I'm talking about the PECOC desert uniform. This apparently is going to be replaced by MTP. Dunno if the unique compromise pattern for the equipment is still going to happen or if that will also be MTP. My guess is they will go with MTP for that as well.

LOL soon the whole world forces would have multicam. Even Russia issued small numbers of multicam to their special units like Spetsnaz if I recall correctly.

This news is indeed interesting. I had thought that despite such flak to replace ACU, that the US would've settled on a MultiCam-ish pattern before the Brits ever did.

After reading up on this shift as much as I could last evening, I found out the following:

• MTP was designed under urgent circumstances at a cost of £250,000 ($400,000) in a period of six months.
  
• MTP is slated to replace Temperate DPM, but will also be used alongside current Desert DPM, until such time as current stocks of DDPM are depleted or rendered unserviceable.
  
• MTP was designed by Crye Precision as a pattern featuring "MultiCam effectiveness with a British accent."
  
• While it's not 100% perfect for all situations or one environment over another, it is supposedly "good" throughout all settings.
  
• All aspects of issue kit will eventually be in the MTP pattern, up to and including body armour, helmet covers, webbing, and pouches.
  
• Forces deploying to Afghanistan in March will be the first to receive MTP uniforms, styled in the current CS95 cut. 16 Air Assault BDE is among these units if I remember correctly.
  
• Issue is slated to begin forces-wide by April 2011, with total issue to be completed (including webbing & armour, etc.) by 2016.

Well I am gonna be giving my DPm suppliers a call and see if they think the British will be having massive DPM auctions soon.

I found some new sources for pictures of the MTP to compare with Multicam, so I slapped them together for a good comparison shot. Now, you have to remember the lighting is different, and that the one on the left is a digital image, and both the middle and the right are different shots of fabric.
