Greetings all, I present you something of a mystery to me. It is one of the first pieces of Auscam that I acquired but never new much about. It appears to a M42 chest rig but has no labels, or stamps. It seems to be made out of the same material as the Aussie 90's issued bum bags. Beyond that I dont know anything else about it.
Interior of map case and water bottle pouches has a camo poncho type material:
Notice the camo part of the straps is on the under side.
Anyone got any ideas???? Maker???? Date???? Pics of it in use???? Custom????
I have one exactly the same. From what I know they were made by a 'backyarder' (hence no tags nor markings) but they were manufactured in some volume. At least one guy I questioned said that they were issued to his unit (51 FNQR). I'd say they date from early-mid 1990's, pretty much a little while after the Arktis chest rig (upon which this design is copied from) became popular with British Forces.
zane, you should keep this item, its got some value, the waterproof lining in the aussie raincoat pattern, i have a minimi pouch with the same lining, i have a feeling the waterproof pattern were actually manufactured for these items...
