So-called "tiger stripes" ?

This uniform is on display at the American History museum in DC and is said to have been worn by a US advisor to Vietnam in the early stages of the conflict, labeled as "tiger stripe" pattern.

To me it looks a lot like the old British WWII brushstroke camouflage material, cut in the style of one of the Vietnam-era uniforms.

This looks nothing like any variant of tiger stripe I've ever seen... anyone have any idea what the heck it is?

If that is tiger stripe then I was wearing ruskie BDUs in Viet Nam!!!
Another good example of a museum with staff who have NO clue what they are doing!

Looks like Philippine brush stroke.

That cam was worn by advisors. It was discussed on USMF. They had a long thread about it.

Known in collector circles as 'Pinks' or 'Bulletproofs', it was worn in the early part of the Vietnam War by ARVN Airborne battaalions and is derived from the British WW2 Windproof pattern which the French previously wore en masse in Indochina.

Interesting... I had not known of this pattern. But we can all agree they're improperly labeled as tiger stripes, right?

This is actually a WW2 British pattern which was sent off to France as surplus, then France had more stuff made in the cloth (I don't know if they had the cloth produced locally or what). The Brits made "Windproof" smock and jacket out of this stuff, as well as a winter tanker coveralls.

It is a South Vietnam camouflage
It look as the WW2 British pattern but it is not that
(I don't know if they had the cloth produced locally or what) No French have never build the pattern , they have used Enghish surplus and modify some garment as this:

So these were worn by French, US and Vietnamese military members at one point or another, is that correct? I'm completely clueless on Vietnam uniforms.

During Indochina war French army has used plenty of garment and gear bought in US and English surplus.
The camouflage of the set showing in the first picture of the post and my shirt is a South Vietnam camouflage.
Post Indochina war, French have never use that.
Maybe the camouflage is inspired by the WWII English pattern but it is very different.
