WW1 Allied Victory Medal Empty WW1 Allied Victory Medal

Post by swag Fri Mar 06, 2009 11:42 pm

As many of you already know I have a thing for WW1 Victory Medals, I don't know why, I just do. Here are the medals from some of the Allied Powers. All the Allied Powers used the common rainbow design ribbon. Each country was allowed to design their own medallion with winged-Victory on the obverse and either the names or coat of arms of the victorious powers. However Japan and Siam, having no appreciation of a winged-Victory figure from their culture, used a legendary figure who was most similar to the winged-Victory concept. Also, not all the Allied Powers used the names/coat of arms of the victorious nations on for the reverse design.
    First up is Belgium.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I've enjoyed collecting these medals and the compliment my US Victory Medals rather nicely.

X - Yes, Siam (Thailand) and the Philippines are the hardest to obtain. I saw a Siam medal sell for over $2800.

Great reference guys, these are great! I never new all of these medals existed, I love all the little differences to Winged Victory on the front...WTF is up with the Italian ribbon, id they just want to be different? Or do Italian Rainbows look different than everyone elses?

    Folks,
Very nice groupings of WWI Victory Medals. FYI the Italian Victory Medal normally has the same rainbow ribbon that other other countries have. I think someone put the wrong ribbon on the medal.
    Regards,
    John
