Real or not? Empty Real or not?

Post by Erdmoebeldealer Tue Sep 21, 2010 8:15 am

    Hi out there!

I've bought some Jackets and patches very cheap some years ago. I Like them very much, but I wonder about them, weather they are private purchase, commercial stuff or "the real deal". Please help me with your knowledge.

    1. I wonder, weather this one is a ERDL or what else. The "cut" (Pouches, Size, sewing) is strange and the material is quite smooth on the skin. Is it an Vietnam-Like Jacket or not? One of the owners before me must have cut the sign, so there are only small remains of it.

    2. This Six-Color Jacket without any sings in it and without patches. It's very washed, but the used colors are very similar to my original BDU-Items.

    3. These patches. They are hand-knit and the Material is a thin OD colored cloth.

So please help me. I am very interested in knowing more about these items. I'm thanking you in anticipation.

The "ERDL" looks like a commercial BDU ripoff, I havent seen any countries using it and it sure isnt US. I could be wrong about it being foreign, but I dont think so.

The patches on the other hand, look to be possibly VN made. Im no expert though.

That 6-color pullover is intriguing, I have never seen anything like it before..it is almost like a Sniper smock

Yes, the ERDL is surely no US. But where could it be from? Which country uses such a pattern/such a fabrication?

Top jacket is a commercial hunting camo jacket.. I worked with a kid that had one. 6 color is a private purchase anorack. I have one of these I bought and wore in Desert Storm. I think I got mine fro either Ken Nolan or Brigade Quartermaster. They were not issued, but were allowed. Patches look theatre made, Possibly in Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, or Okinawa. No idea what they stand for.

The ERDL is called Invisible ERDL because after a few washings it fades to nothing , from what some serious NAM collectors have told me , this was developed by the U.S. along with the other ERDL patterns but not used by Us , it was used by the South Vietnamese ARVN , but in a ARVN cut , left over fabric was used in the U.S. by companies like Chief ,Ranger and Polar and KAMO , to make commercial hunting suits , I have several of these .

Thanks a lot for your answers. Very interesting for me!

I think, the patches could be a private purchase for a combat medic (C M). But that would only be my suggestion. They are really washed out, the color of all was black on green. So I thought of the nature-silk-sewing of Asia or the Philippines.

I have had several of these ERDL uniforms and I assume they are commercial. The AVRN Rangers (and sometimes their US advisors) wore uniforms in this cloth in the early 1960s, however the shirts were cut similar to US OG-107. The commercial copies usually have three pockets. The commercial trousers are closer to the originals.

The 6 Color Desert pull over looks like a Jordanian NBC top. The black lining and epaulettes make me think that. I have one but can't get at it to confirm the design. Somewhere on this Fourm I could swear there were pictures of this jacket, but a quick search turned up nothing.

A genuine set should have black ink stamps in it.

I have the same ERDL jacket as you. I got mine from a pal in Vietnam a few years back. Mine only has two pockets though.

Yes I am sure , there are several pictures documenting the use of this pattern by the ARVN during the war , go to the U.S. forum and do a search , the difference is in the cut as Steve pointed out , and most have the classic ARVN stamp in them .
