    Some randon Civil Defense stuff

Post by 1stDivVet on Sun Feb 06, 2011 10:55 pm

Here's the little display at the foot of the stairs to my man-bunker.
A fallout shelter sign, Civil Defense gas mask, the hand painted Air Raid Warden helmet, and my dad's old transistor radio with CD channels.

These are in the rafters. A Geiger Counter and a charger for the radiation pens.

A Sk IV Sanitation Kit. These held toilet supplies and sanitary needs. The drum was to be used as a commode.

    Close up of dad's radio

I've always thought Geigers were neat... are they fairly easy pieces to obtain?

I see them fairly regularly. They usually run around $25-$35 here. This one works, but is out of calibration. I think I got both those together for $25. They are pretty fun. I play with mine around the old radium face instruments I have and watch the needle jump. LOL

My science teacher in high school brought in some of the old radioactive FiestaWare plates... that was my first chance to play with a Geiger. Laughing

Some paperwork. Most of this came from a local CD Auxiliary Fireman during WW2.

42 dated pamphlet "Notes on City Gas for Air Raid Wardens"

42 dated "Handbook of First Aid"

42 dated magazine "You and the War"

Special Bulletin "Safeguarding ALL Fire hose"

Jan 1, 44 Certificate of Membership to H. E. Curry Auxiliary Fire Service

Feb 10, 44 Award for Service to H. E. Curry for 500 hours volunteer service

Curry's Auxiliary Fire Service arm brassard. Or what's left of it. These were a very thin painted cloth and tended to crack and tear easily.

Curry's printed Civil Defense arm band
