    US Army DDPM

Post by Kan on Mon Feb 07, 2011 2:41 am

Hey all, I ran into a ddpm blouse with US army rank, name and branch tapes, and unit patch on one the shoulders all in OD. Anyone ever heard about something like this?

That is indeed strange. First thing I would have thought of is an attachment to another country's forces but then the individual would still wear his DCUs. The last time I've heard of anything like this is Vietnam (US advisers attached to ARVN Rangers/Marines/Airborne).

I saw a pic of USAF personnel in the UK wearing DPM (70s/80s) but no insignia.

What Filupe mentioned is what popped into my head at first, but it seems that that pratice hasn't been in use until recently, in my experience. I don't know though, you guys think it might be legit?

Not DDPM, but USAF security personnel wearing P68 DPM at RAF Upper Heyford, circa 1979. I do not know the nature of the exercise or the circumstances surround its usage, though.

Such a great pattern, innit? Wink

I've snooped around on that (now-defunct) base's reunion site and cannot seem to find any reference to that exercise or the reason for the issue of the uniforms. Perhaps I will contact the webmaster for more information.

That would be very useful Ben, the DPM vs USAF in the UK aspect is particularly interesting,so any info you can gain would be great Mate ,nice one Wink

I've just noticed that a few of them have their USAF rank affixed onto the DPM jackets, which leads me to believe that the wearing of these uniforms may not have been a short term affair. I recall vaguely that during that time period USAF bases in the UK were under some pressure by protesters (for what issue escapes me now), perhaps the donning of these uniforms by USAF personnel was to make them look like British personnel so as to avoid the extra attention from the media/protestors/whatever.

    Just a thought ...
