Gents I obtained this pot from a French dealer at the War and Peace on saturday for £35.00 I first thought it was an Amirican Veit Nam example of an M1C but now im not shure, I dont have a chin strap for the liner but the female snaps to attach the shell chinstrap are present but the shell strap has been cut so the male snaps are missing,Looking at the nape strap it is made of green painted leather, the only markings are the stenceil at the rear and cross molded on the liners outside and a -5- stamped in black innerside of the liner, there no markings at all on the shell and the net came with the pot.I have found the marking in the inner crown of the liner

    Hiya Graham.

    Nice Lid Mate.

What you got there is a Parachutists helmet liner , made around the mid 1980's, judging by the embossed stamp probably by Speciality Plastic Products. This manafacturer was the last to make these Para liners. There should be a date stamp and DLA number on the webbing.

I have no idea about the Shell it's self, I assume it's rear seam, and therefore could be US, or a Euro clone M1, e.g. Belgium. And why it's got green leather nape strap I have no idea.

These liners would have been fitted with a liner pad, which fitted in behind the nape strap, but these very rarely turn up in the surplus market.

I'm certain the liner is the last version of US m1 para liners, the shell I'm not sure. If it's a US lid it will have a stamped set of numbers inside of the front. But can be hard to see.

Perhaps if you show some detailed shots of the shell, like where the seam is joined, and the bales, I may be able to positively ID it for you mate. Very Happy

    Hi Graham.

That sounds like a good deal, and being a front seam it would be that more desirable. Wink

Hopefully with the cash you will be able to buy another cool lid to share here.

    Hi Graham.

Sound like a good plan mate, I don't have either of these myself, but I know what you mean about the price tag's on these lids.

It always amazes me the differnces in lid prices, for example Czech lids might as well be buy one get one free, whereas the Israeli lids fetch good prices, supply and demand I guess Wink

    Hi Gary
I think another reason that the IDF and SADF Kpots are so dammed costly is thar both countrys dont release their kit onto the open market so the stuff that is for sale is shall we say ahem redistributed by persons who are leaving or left the military. might say they fell off the back of a squaddie.
