Yes, they are still issued. In fact, they are part of the current rucksack system. This item normally comes with 4 detchable pouches to make it adaptable to the soldier's mission so that he can tailor his pack to the mission at hand. I don't think there is an arid version of this pack but there is an issued arid CADPAT pack cover that can be fit over top of this.

    Thanks for that info.

Mine came with one only of the 4 pouches. I presume these are widely available on the surplus market as they are issued one per person i imagine ?

I better now keep an eye out for the Arid cover ! Now that Canadian troops are no longer in theatre, my old buddies can't get the kit they used to for me. I managed to get an Arid Goretex jacket in a 7044 and a TW ICE in a 7040 which fits me. Both are mint too. Mind you, if i move back to Canada this summer, I imagine i won't be able to use that kit for my hiking trips, eh ? Very Happy

Just don't get arrested for using illegal Canadian issued kit Tyler ! Laughing Hate to see you behind bars as, judging by your other posts to my threads, we'd get along most cordially Smile

Curious as to how canadian troops carry the small pack when the large rucksack is worn?Do the two attach together?Or are the used like "Russian doll style"?

I don't think the two can be worn together. There are certainly no provisions on the small pack to attach it to anything piggy back style and looking at teh main pack, nothing on it either. They are an either or combo.

Use your imagination. Anyway a soldier can attach it or pack it, he will think of it. I like to pack my small pack at the top of the ruck just under the flap. This keeps it handy and secure. I'll keep my raingear, change of underwear (socks, t-shirt, boxer briefs), 24 hours of rations and water, and other items in it that I'll need when dismounted for any length of time. Some guys like to put their small packs right inside the ruck main compartment. I've seen other guys bungee cord the pack to the outside of their rucks. It's all personal preference as to how you want to carry it with your ruck.

Not disagreeing at all Rob but using ad hoc carabiners and bungees is hardly an official, approved and designed method of attachment which is what I think was the question being asked.

The ingenuity of the squaddie coupled with necessity being the mother of invention overcomes everything ! Very Happy

Question answered.Just curious. In the Irish DF we keep our patrol packs in the main compartment of our Bergens/rucksacks.Some lads go with putting them under the floating lid of the bergen but i personally find it makes the load unstable.Just wondering how other armies do it.thanks.

You might think that they would be readily available but you would be mistaken. With a few minor exceptions, all current issue Cadpat items are destroyed and are not released as surplus. I worked for a short time in the section that was responsible for demilitarizing controlled items and we threw everything Cadpat into an industrial shredder. As a collector it was heart breaking to destroy unissued arid Cadpat items on more then one occasion.
