Post by bravo_2_zero on Wed Oct 26, 2011 3:23 pm

I just snagged an ultra rare beast, 1980's period, maybe trial, maybe Iraq contract para smock.

I will post pictures when it arrives.

These things seem to go for crazy prices. I stumbled across an individual who had a uniform in this pattern, and wouldn't part with it for a penny less than £1000!

Not sure if they're worth that much or not, but that's the only price this person would consider. I was a bit gutted to say the least. Embarassed

EDIT: £40 is a steal! Needless to say, you made a great score! I'm still hoping I can get lucky and find one of these mis-identified as something else, or at a kit sale for cheap. Laughing

Mine came from a duffel bag filled with 80's period stuff I paid £10 for, absolute mint unworn but some sort of issue with the tags. The tags are all stamped up Iraq MOD contract 1983 and size 6/ small but they are an easy 36" waist ?

One day I bought two USMC reversible shelter halfs, dated 1944, for $6 with stakes at a flea market. But besides that I feel like I usually pay through the nose for everything. So count me amongst the jealous Very Happy

There are no labels or the ghost of any applied.

The epplets have also been cut off which is a thing done by squadies in the field. There are little things with jacket that points towards it being a custom made one off job.

Firstly the cloth, it's windproof, zip is ykk, no coat hanger webbing in the rear.

The cloth is vintage for sure as this cloth hasn't been reproduced in the rare version of Dpm. The Dpm print is only found in the sas smocks and not the windproof ones.

There are slight sewing errors like the crotch press studs on the front, one side is set higher than the other.

I don't know what this jacket is for or what it was made for but it all points towards something special.
