Please assist in identifying the authenticity

Post by Militaryman on Fri Oct 28, 2011 8:35 am

    Hi All French collectors....

Please can you assist in identifying if this jacket is indeed authentic and if all the badges are correct? It looks a bit over the top for me.

I believe new members canu post an image for 7 days?? IS that true, if so how do i add an image or do i have to hold out for the 7 days?

Hi, well I'm not French, but I am a collector.

The jacket looks legit enough, and the badges from jumpwings to marksman-badge themselves look fine.

But the shoulder rank says French Foreign Legion rekrut-rank, maybe not consistant with the amount of medals and decorations?

    Hi Saltefanden,

Thanks for your input it is much appreciated! I agree there might be too many medals and decorations but i am an African camo uniform collector so im not too sure with FFL. Thanks again.

    Kind Regards

Hey, you are welcome - really that is what we're here for!

I am no FFL expert myself, but do have a general idea of rank and medal systems, so that was the only disharmony I spotted.
But depending on asked price it looks like a sound buy. At least it comes with a good load of period military decorations and a shirt.

The asking price is ZAR 5000.00 South African Rand, so about Euro444.00.

Comes with a few pieces, but i'm actually into Camo, so a nice set of French (FFL) camo would do nicely :-)

FOrmer french collector, the ribboned medals aren't displayed right, I'm not sure they even wore medals on the uniform. The legion company badges are wrong in that they should be on a leather pocket hanger and only one of these would be worn. The top one looks like 1st REP, can't make out the others. Also, the legion badges have been officiallyl reissued (if they were the official restrikes, they would have an "R" and year of manuf, like R76 etc). Original 2Rep badges are not terribly valuable.

This appears to be put together without rhyme or reason and is horribly overpriced. I'm sure alot of other errors on this but that's all I can pick out.

WHAT is the asking price? Whoa... stay very, very far away from that. That's in a price range that would require everything on this uniform to be 100% correct and from an individual that is in some way famous. The jackets are about EUR 10 and I can't believe the badging would exceed another EUR 80.

444 euros for that? Well I don't know about the badges and medals, maybe some of them are rare items but these OD french jackets are DAMN cheap.
