Difference between NZ DPM and Dutch DPM Empty Difference between NZ DPM and Dutch DPM

Post by Flecktarn Australia Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:07 am

A currently serving NZ Army chap on another forum told me that the newest NZ DPM is very close to Dutch DPM. I cannot tell the difference. They look identical. Anyone know what the difference is between the two and why NZ went Dutch, or is it just cooincidental?

He also said that the Yemeni troops use an older version of NZ DPM, so not true to say that Yemen using NZ DPM anymore - despite what it says in Wikipedia

Dutch stuff is printed on a dark cloth which makes the colours more earthy brown. They both usea direct copy of Dpm , not a dpm'ish but actuall British used Dpm.

The kiwi stuff now use the las/latestt print screens of Dpm which is the same as the British and more or less the same colours as the tea bag tropicals.
The Dutch use the Dpm of the 80's , I think the stuff that was used upto 1984 where the British used nice bright colours and soft cotton half lined suits.

NZ and Dutch DPM is more yellow than the British DPM. I was told that the new NZ DPM was not sourced from anything currently British (and hasn't been since the 80's.) It has been through many inhouse (NZ) changes over time and the latest inhouse change has that Dutch influence. So not sure what you mean by "...same as the British" I don't really have first hand info, so just trying to make sense of that.

I still don't know why NZ just didn't go Tigerstripe when they did their camo trials in the 80's. Tiger has the brush strokes of DMP and they could have just re coloured that considering NZ bush is very dense and similar to South East Asian bush in which Tigerstripe was born and is still used (by those countries that haven't turned into sheep and gone into trendy digital.)

They use the same print as the current British Dpm in both colour and shapes, only the cut of the uniform is very slightly different. Which is covered buttons and reinforced areas. I'm not saying they use British equipment or uniforms but they use 100% identicle print and colours.

The Brit tea bags tropicals are the same colour as the kiwi Dpm. The british temperate stuff is however far too dark.

I finally cleared this up on my trip to New Zealand. I got to see Dutch DPM side by side with British and here is the difference:

The Dutch DPM has no "dithering" (those little dots that create a feathered effect) that British, NZ, etc DPM has. That's the difference.

Speaking of DPM I used to have a top and pant set the first of the DPM uniforms to coem into NZ Picked it up at 2nd hand shop was old 68 pattern DPM smock and heavy pants too Wish I kept type 58 and the 68 pattern stuff would have gone niceley with an SLR for airsoft. I just use Dutch British and NZ DPM .
