Re: Vietnam era lookin'
99.9% of the stuff in duck hunter camo never saw military use, never was in Vietnam. OK... maybe not that high... maybe 99.8%
The only people that can possibly say if something was used in Vietnam or not are the guys who eat, breath, and sleep duck hunter camo. And even then I get the feeling they guess a lot because the stuff worn there might have been purchased from retail sources in the US.

Re: Vietnam era lookin'
I agree with Steve.
Pretty confident that this is commercial based on both the label and (mostly the) pocket configuration.
Cheers,
Ben.

Re: Vietnam era lookin'
Thanks for the info but I didn't bother to mention that it is commercial. Soley cause 1 I didn't question on that fact and 2 almost everone here are militaria fanatics & or collectors. So of course you know what your lookin' at (depending on your specialites). Still the name of the camo would be much appreciated

Duck Hunter
there are thousands of patterns made all over the world for both military and civilian use ,Borsarello called it King Kard , but I have never heard this term outside of his book , and all of it is based on the U.S. WWII pattern .

Re: Vietnam era lookin'
just one thing to add,
beogam is actually any duck hunt pattern made "in country", or that was produced in vietnam...
Also the "13" buttom duck hunt shirt, i have some documented pictures of usage in the "bay of pigs invasion" there's actually one shirt hanging in a local museum in Havana that was captured from the battle.
As for other duck hunt items as everybody else pointed out, is really hard to spot which ones were actually used in vietnam... there are some tips that can assure you the ones that weren't, like buttons, (they should have the older flat buttons) tags, fabric and the "feel" of it, also they are quite old by now, so anything that is post 1964, or so is probably no Vietnam... All duck hunt uniforms were commercial items to.
cheers

Sorry , but this is a false statement , many countries in Europe ,Asia, and central and south America issued "Duck Hunter" pattern camo uniforms , its not all commercial .
Some of the most famous is South Korea, Mexico and the Dutch .

Re: Vietnam era lookin'
The whole 'Duck Hunter in Vietnam' issue is one fraught with ambiguity. What is certain that commercial duck hunters were procured by some early SF elements before the advent of army issued camouflage uniforms. Many collectors seem to agree that some 'Kamo' brand examples are certainly the more desirable of these early duck hunter variants (esp. with metal buttons as mentioned before). I recommend going through the 'beo gam' thread that is pinned to the headboard of the uniform section of USMF - see here

Re: Vietnam era lookin'
Beogam
close up of beogam pattern
You can see a picture with the good colors on the book tiger stripe pattern by Denis Johnson
I need to take picture of my shirt
For me beogam pattern is an early South Vietnam pattern (maybe US fabric an give at South Vietnam as aid)
Duck hunter
The duck hunter pattern is based on the USA WWII pattern
You can find exatly same pattern as USA WWII pattern and plenty of variant in the drawing
The navy seal have used duck hunter for training in USA and in vietnam until 1968 ( I say 1968 because at this date I don't know picture showing navy seal with duck hunter pattern)
On this picture you can see garment with hight pocket and another with low pocket
I thing garment with hight pocket are one piece garment ( difficult to say on picture and I have not find a good picture for be sure)
And you can find duck hunter as private purchase wearing by US soldier or South Vietnam soldier
South Vietnam soldier in beogam and duck hunter pattern
South Korea pattern
And you can find picture showing US soldier wearing South Korea garment at this picture
I hope not be too sententious
Very important, the beogam pattern is the close up I have piut in first
All who look as this but not identical is not beogam pattern!
Best regards,
Gilles
