Belgium Jigsaw Combat Jacket-help required please.

Hi Guys,

This one is very common I know, But exactly what Model is it, when was it issued, I guess 80's ???

Any informative help would be most welcome, and many thanks

Many thanks Philip, and sorry I should have mentioned earlier ,sadly the label's print is completely washed out, so there are no clues there!!!

It is named, but no legible writing on the label.

1990s to present, quite common but nice nonetheless.

I think this is the "third jigsaw pattern" should be quite common and not much older than the 90's...

here are the 3 different variations of the "jigsaw" pattern

1st pattern - 1958


2nd pattern - 1970's (not sure the date)


3rd and current pattern - 1990s' to present

Can I just ask a quick question - not wanting to hijack your thread !

Which model of smock was used by Belgian peacekeepers in Rwanda? Certainly not the most recent pattern but the other looks rather too old. The other type of kit they used were the shirt&trousers with the white insides...

Well there were Belgium peace keepers both in 1962 and 1994...
I'm assuming you meant the 60's one...
In that case could also be the brushstroke pattern... I could not find any pics on the web, I've seeing in a book before a Belgian soldier in Rwanda wearing the brushstroke pattern...

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear - I'm talking about the 1994 operation in which 10 paras were killed.

At the moment there is a clearing sale with the Belgian Army.

IIRC they wore what is commonly called "Jungle" pattern. It is Jigsaw made from very light poplin with white interior. It was worn on UN missions abroad. This was the only pre 1997 camouflage that was wore by regular Army units since the 1960s, so far as I know. The first production was in the early 1970s with the very rare 8 pocket trousers, then later reduced to 6 pockets. They are not easy to find because they wore out quickly and Belgian soldiers really liked them (they are super comfortable).
