YAY! My first piece of British Gear! The famous DPM smock. I have wanted one of these for a long time. I found this one on Sportsmanguide.com for quite a deal.

This shoulder pocket is very small. I do not know what would fit in it.
    Temperate DPM smock Photo126
This is a strange pocket, what was it ment for? Does it have a specific use?

Made in Great Britain! By Sturm. This is a great coat it has been well used but still in good condition.

the pocket on the left sleeve is a pen pocket and if there is a pocket on the upper rear of the right sleeve it is for a First feild dressing, the pocket on tbe bottom of the back is a poachers pocket and if the jacket is turned insideout it can be rolled into this pocket to make it easier to stow it in a rucksack.

    Nice smock!

They actually got your order right... I tried to order one of these and got a Pattern 85 smock. When I sent it back to exchange it for the right thing, the replacement I received was another P85 smock. Oh, but it gets better -- said smock was the same smock I had just sent back! (I could tell from the dirt stain on the back of the jacket.)

    Talk about frustrated!

I'm 99.4% sure the original smock posted is a 94 pattern version. You can tell by the vertical zippered pockets on either side of the top chest pockets. The 85 pattern smocks did not have the vertical zipper pockets.

The 1st pic does indeed look like a 90(or 94-whatever you prefer to call them) smock as it had the zipered pockets but the other pics look like 85 patt Shocked

Just to confirm, mine does indeed have the zipper pockets. Is it possible that maybe it was turned into a 94?Maybe to save on material or that 85 cloth was used to make an 94?

Does it have its original issue label?

Seeing as it has a STURM inkstamp inside i know they are known to sometimes do some weird and wonderful alterations to some kit for whatever reasons.

    Hmm,paper?

Probably cloth but either way a pic would help.

I dont have my smock to hand to check the inside so it might possibly be 100% legit.

zips either side of main zip= 94 pattern.

I have seen many US purchased DPM garments now with the sturm stamp, it does'nt mean it's a commercial/fake or whatever, purely an ex-UK Gov piece stamped by sturm, I suppose it's like their ownership mark!!!

Cool piece, welcome to the world of DPM collectors hell, now you're going to have to get every single model from 60- to current MTP. Laughing Twisted Evil

I might be opening a can of worms here but what is the designation for these as i hear people calling them 90,91 and 94 pattern.

I know many many years ago when they 1st appeared on the market they were ALWAYS referred to as 90 pattern but this seem to have changed????

I have noticed this as well, but I can't seem to find any differences between the "90" and "94" patterned smocks. I've always called them 94 pattern, most likely in error. Laughing

However, I have heard that desert smocks in this style were around during Gulf War 1, so my guess is that 90 pattern would probably be a more fitting designation.

Guess we will never know as these crazy collectors have an obsession with trying to "pattern" everything-sometimes even when no such pattern exists.

Personally i tend to go with whats on the official labels such as 60 and 68 Pattern and also CS95.
