Strange Para Jacket Empty Strange Para Jacket

Post by panzerwerk Tue Apr 07, 2009 6:43 pm

Its a regular para jacket with the lower pockets removed and ammo pouches sewn on , the pouches have snap tops like they were part of something else ,maybe an assault vest or something , the arm band was in one of the pockets .

    Steve,

Neat piece! I just saw one of these on eBay. Did you snag it within the past few days?

What you have there is a standard M87 para jacket with M87 padded load bearing vest ammo pouches affixed to it. There were no lower pockets to remove.

The M87 LBV is a nasty bit of gear (I have one). It's very heavy, must be hot as Hell to wear, and probably quite expensive to make. I think the idea was to have flexibility to customize the loadout by unsnapping stuff and putting different stuff on. However, to the best of my knowledge they never followed through with different attachments.

Sounds like the armband is what we would call (in English) the "NCO on duty". Kinda like a hall monitor, but with more attitude (if that is possible!).

Since I got both my 3 color (M87) and 4 color (M90) vests from Tamas, it's not surprising he knows all about this topic Very Happy Heh... I didn't know there was an OD version!

Tamas in Hungary , emailed me some time ago about this shirt , he is now a member here , he told me the Paratroops did not like the hot bulky assault vests , so they would remove the mag pouches and sew them directly on the jacket , it was not an uncommon thing to do .

Not surprising. Like I said above, the vest must have been horrible to wear in anything but the dead of winter. It is extremely thick and heavy. Air circulation couldn't be good at all.

Guys, Just heard back from Tamas on this jacket! Anyone have any spare magazine pouches as I would enjoy modifying my Hungarian para smock like this so I could use it here on the base ranges. Steve G. if you have any, let me know what you would need in trade. I'd need 2 of the camo pouches. Bruce

    Steve,
I understand! Tamas is going to send me the fabric so I can make two similar pouches. No problem, pirat Bruce
