    GUARDS BERET Empty GUARDS BERET

    Post by british-rat Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:30 pm

    Hello friends
I want to show a beret I bought a few years ago
As I understand, in a Welsh Guards beret but I do not understand that served cloth with regimental colors.
In the Falkland Islands conflict, all guards berets do not have that flash.
    do you think? Question
    Greetings Very Happy

Yes, you are right. I don't remember any flashes backing the badges on guards berets in the Falklands either ... perhaps a tactical omission?

Anyone know when the Household Division flash was instituted onto the beret?

I suppose it was done to differentiate from other British units using the khaki beret including (according to Wikipedia): "... Honourable Artillery Company, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, Royal Anglian Regiment, Royal Gibraltar Regiment, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, Royal Welsh, Yorkshire Regiment, Mercian Regiment, 4/73 (Sphinx) Special OP Battery Royal Artillery ..."

Its later than the Falklands conflict as their badges had no coloured flash and the Leek was cloth not Brass.

Someone also claimed that they wore black berets but have nothing to prove this.

cloth edging?I think that depends on the manufacturer of berets; compton webb usually make them with cloth edging
black berets?! amazing! be investigated ...
I think the cloth badge is for official

Definitely NOT a Falklands era beret im afraid-Sorry.

Regarding the cloth edging,i have seen berets from the same makers with both leather and cloth edging so not a maker thing.

For some reason during the 70s and early 80s cloth edging was used-for what reason i have no idea but it was only a short lived thing.
