PARA HELMET COVER Empty PARA HELMET COVER

    Post by british-rat Mon Jan 30, 2012 10:37 pm

    Hello

First I apologize for my English-speaking.
I am Jesus of Seville Spain.
Years ago I collect British militaria from WWII to the present day.
I am forced to ask for help with a question that I can not solve by myself.

During the Falklands conflict in numerous photos show the new fiber lightweight helmets that were used by the Parachute Regiment. Some of them appear with a helmet cover DPM, under nets or black tape.
I wanted to know if covers were handmade or manufactured in series for this model.

Hello Jesus,do you have one of these rare helmets?

There were NO issue DPM covers available at the time.

Common practise was using a hood from the 68 Pattern DPM combat smock and sometimes also putting a net or a scrim scarf on top fixed with taps.

As Gulf mentioned ,there was not an official issue cover for the Para lids, P 68 Hoods or Hessian, and scrim was used. Wink

We covered the Mk5 tin P**sers with hessian with a net over it then added fabric scrim to the net and added local foliage to blend the helmet in, I never saw a purpose made DPM cover for the Mk5 Im not saying there was'nt just I never saw one.

    No worries Jesus.

Graham has hit the nail on head with this one. There were no Mk 5 covers.

Or Mk 4 covers for that matter as mentioned by Rich. Wink

Incidentally Richard (Gulf91) has provided an excellent example already of one of these lids and clear pictures of how the hood could be attached...check it out!!!
