Mystery ERDL ripstop jacket Empty Mystery ERDL ripstop jacket

Post by CollectinSteve Mon Jan 09, 2012 12:00 am

I bought this a while ago cheap and now I don't know what to make of it. It appears to be a Vietnam issued jacket, but the cloth doesn't feel or look right and there's no contract number on the tag. There's no sign of badging on it, though it does look like it was used for Paintball/Airsoft. I am unfamiliar with repro Vietnam camo items. Anybody know anything about this piece?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Atlantco owns Tru-Spec.

    Definitely a commercial repro.

    Steve ,
it looks very similar to the original first run of Experimental ERDL sets that Natick Laboratories sent for testing to Vietnam on December of 65 , the chest pockets look the same except for on the Natick sets the buttons where exposed , but the pockets sure do look like them.

This is what the last known example of the Natick one looks like

    Steve,

Both OD and ERDL reproduction uniforms were available through US Cavalry during the early 90's. I still have one of the catalogs around here somewhere.

    Cheers,

OD and tiger stripe (the crap commercial pattern) are available today from Rothco (made in China), and are about the same as the jacket in the OP.

OK, that's what I figured. I wasn't familiar with the name Atlantco so I thought I should at least ask.

BTW, the quality is very good. I snagged it cheap because I liked the colors and decided to take a risk. There was no picture of the tag so I figured I was getting a repro piece. At least I know what to call it on my Trade/Sale list Very Happy

That one is also commercial. Teesar is Mil-Tec/Sturm.

Uck... they've got an SPO number on their label. I hate it when the knockoffs do that. Really can confuse identification.

The contract date on this label is 1989. I doubt Teesar existed in 1989, therefore any doubts it could be genuine issue should go away with that fact.

And the contract is wrong anyway, should be DLA for that time frame.

Yeah, I meant to mention that Smile BTW, do you know of a handy chart which shows the date ranges for the different prefixes? I know them buy gut feel only, not specific dates.
