    Hi Guys.

Nothing special or super rare about this 85 dated, but perhaps someone can help me with a question, what was the purpose of having the thick rubbery/plastic pocket linings?

Other than causing your upper arms to sweat badly,I can't think of a logical reason for them being fitted?

Interesting jacket... I have never paid attention to the inside of these.

Perhaps the lining is a non-permeable membrane to protect pocket contents from contamination? I'm not sure what would be kept in pockets though, as antidote injectors are usually kept in the gas mask bag.

A cool jacket nonetheless. Chem gear is an under-appreciated (but vitally important) bit of military kit!

I also think it's some kind of protection for the contents (of the pockets).

That, I'm not sure... maybe M9 contamination paper and a notepad? I'm 99% sure the atropine (or other antidote mixture) is kept within the mask bag. But I could be wrong.

Thanks again Ben, I did think it may be for chemical/contamination paper too?

I know in the Brit mas mask bags of this era,the chem pack comes in the gas mask bag,so it stands to reason it would be the same for US equivalents!

    Thanks Mate Wink
