Issue cammo shorts - whatever next ?!! Laughing

My daughter's boyfriend and his unit - currently somewhere hot in every sense of the word - just cut down a pair of their issue longs and one of the lads missus before they left sewed a hem for those that wanted them.

I have to say that MTP seems to be different in how it's perceived to DPM. Even civvies wore a DPM jacket or trousers whilst it was being used in NI & Falklands etc but I never see anyone wearing MTP on the street. I'd assumed it was because it is seen as only being an in-theatre bit of kit and that to have some and wear it means you have been out there. It's certainly beeen available on the surplus market long enough to be out there.

The reality of course is that someone serving would never wear combat kit with civvies as it's disrespectful and not allowed as they must wear it under Queen's Regulations . Plus they see enough of it to be happy when they don't have to wear it !

I'll regularly wear my desert shorts down to the Naafi, its become somewhat of a novelty in my unit, makes a change from dpm aswell so people arent too fussed to be honest? However id be less inclined to wear my pcs trousers to the supermarket with a hooded top etc.

I have PCS trousers and the old S95 style trousers (both in MTP)- the S95 style colour scheme is "Tropical" and is darker than the new "Temperate" in my opinion . If you look at the labels they will state either trop/PCS.

I prefer the colours of the tropical ones to the PCS but the PCS cut is much better lol.

well the issue shorts are made of thicker material than actual trousers- something i reckon its pretty important

I found that the old CS95 stuff was a heavier fabric and darker than the PCS cloth. Maybe the two are connected?

Also on discussion as to the colour differences between the different garments, I saw many posts from serving soldiers saying that MTP blended into the terrain better in Afghan when it had faded a bit so perhaps the MOD took this feedback onboard when they rolled out PCS. Although I realise it is unlikely that the MOD listened to any feedback... Razz
