What is an as new 1959 pattern ( Franklyn manufacture ) denison smock worth ?

Its in as new and unissued condition.

Has no label - stitch marks present so must have been removed.

I assume its Franklyn manufacture due to the extra pop studs on the rear flap.

Its a size medium I guess as I take a size large or UK military 180/104 and its too small for me.

Any ideas what its worth ?

Put it on ebay and find out. Might be a lot or a little. There is no such thing as a fixed price for any collectible.

I've seen '59 Patterns go from anywhere between £20-£200, anymore is silly money! then again, most of those were the 'issue' ones which are common, if its a commercial one, some collector maybe willing to part with a pretty penny.

Tommo, this is the one referred to in the for sale section. It's made by Franklin for an African nation.

Whilst theoretically rarer than a real Denison, it won't be worth anywhere near as much as Denisons command a high price due to desirability rather than rarity - much like WW2 German helmets. They made 26 million of those and they were the most common vet' bring back but you wouldn't think that to see the prices they go for nowadays.

    IMVHO anyways ! Smile

I've seen 2 sold in 2 months on eBay and they sold around £90-100 each, last one was £98.

Its down to timing and luck-seen them go for £50-£90 which is what i myself would pay min and max for but have also seen them going for anything up to £200.

Std 59 Patts not the Franklin type.

I don't find the commercial semi-official versions appealing at all, but J.S. Franklin did supply the Kenyan armed forces for a brief period in the late 1960s, so if you were able to find provenance for the smock proving that it was indeed issued to the Kenyans, it might be worth more than a UK smock.
