    Socovet

Post by sh4pak on Tue Apr 24, 2012 7:05 pm

--Found at a thrift store. Looks just like the ones used in "Blood Diamond," although I'm reluctant to assert that it either comes from, or has ever been to Africa. Bears a tag on the inside that says "SOCOVET Bais 1975," and the metric sizing. I wish it was a 62, because then I could wear it.:

    --Merci!

And... sorry for the duped image. I could have sworn I checked the preview, but I guess I didn't.

Very nice, pretty unusual find and I like it, I've seen these advertised as a "Jeep cap" before Cool

Yeah, I just wish it fit-- not that I'd wear it, but... that's kinda' weird, isn't it? Wanting to be able to wear something you'd never wear? Still if I were to try to quantify my weirdness in all of this, I'd be busy for a while.

Here in the US, we call the Watch Caps with a brim "Jeep" caps, and my guess is that it refers to the "GP" (general purpose) nature of them. Just like the trucks... Interesting to know that abroad, the "jeep" thing transcends knitted caps, and traverses into truly GP territory (woolen caps, not so "generally useful" in the summertime). Wink

When it comes to collecting, I'm unabashedly a Franco/Belgo-phile-- and this resolves to "style" more than anything else. I understand that the gear from nations currently involved in Full-Time Military Operations might be more functional, but... I'm not a soldier. More of an Avid Observer.

    Cheers, Gary!

No worries Mate, I'm slowly starting to get more into french kit, and regularly scour this forum for anything French, saw this one and fully appreciated it for what it is, nice one Wink
