Musee De Armee, Hotel National Des Invalides, Paris

Post by Polkas on Thu May 03, 2012 7:47 am

Got to visit the Musee De Armee, Hotel National Des Invalides in Paris... A interesting place with a incredibly rich history. Lots of WW1, WW2 weapons/ uniforms/ gear, Medieval arms and armour, liberation stuff and the tomb of Napoleon.

Got to see some things I've never seen before... A Enigma machine, V-1 and V-2 rockets and lots of other stuff.

Very hard to take pics tough... It's dark, everything is behind glass and flash is not allowed.

    Real deal V-1 rocket...

Seriously, this is a German anti-tank rifle (WW1)

    German Goliath

    British Sten Mk 1

    B-17 Ball Turret

One of the legendary "Taxi's of the Marne"

I guess we all know what this is...

    Lower part...

French Renault tank, right side view

French Renault tank, left side view

French gatling gun, left side view

French gatling gun, right side view

French WW1 camouflace suit and mask... Looks like something from a bad horror movie

This was very interesting... A small motorcycle with a big engine that was designed to be air-dropped in the canister it's in...

German WW1 Stirnpanzer (I think that's what it's called) machine-gunner armor and helmet which they would throw away at the first opportunity due to it's weight...

This single-shot .45 pistol would be air-dropped in large numbers to resistance forces but I guess everyone here already knows that as some did end up in the Philippines.

    Uhlan...

US on the right, French on the left...

Maginot Line instruments... The one on the right is a periscope-type thing while the one on the left looks like a artillery ranging thing.

    French helmet with mask...

Approaching the Musee De Armee, Invalides, Paris

Closer, Musee De Armee, Invalides, Paris

Statue on the right side of the main doorway entering the museum

    Location map...

    French uniform... I think it's WW1

    German uniform...

Soviet pilot's leather flying helmet and mask...

    V-2 rocket...

Even without flash, these are some excellent shots. It actually lends a lot to the mood. Sometimes, seeing military stuff in Wal-Mart brightness makes them appear grotesque.

    Very well done.
