    Lizard Jacket - TAP56 copy/commercial/unknown?

Post by drmatz on Wed May 16, 2012 2:56 pm

    got this lizard jacket...

Doesn't look like an original tap56, but i know very little so any help is much appreciated.
Is this jacket issued, just a repro, or used by some francophone country?, or actually a TAP56 jacket...

    cheers and thanks in advance

Mmmmmh, the sewn elasticated wrists look a bit 'new' in tecnique, as does the zippers - can you make a close-up on those?

My TAP57-59 (that my girlfriend has commandeered as it is not my size) looks somewhat more coarse in the herringbone twill fabric.

Dare I say it looks a wee bit like a good repro?...

I would love for you to have a real deal jacket, so I hope I'm wrong, mate!

    hi ronny,

thanks for the help, i do have a real one Smile so if this turns out to be a just a repro, not the end of the world...
And as much i want this to be real, i'm more inclined to think not...

My question is, im almost sure is not original french, but could it be one of those francophone (french speaking african countries) jacket?

    Hi Dr. Matz,

It's a nice piece all the same, but yes, over to the real experts on African affairs for elaboration!

But now you've went and got me interested; is there any info to be had from the little tag in the nape of the neck, please?

It is a derivative of the French F2 pattern as I have post here
    http://iacmc.forumotion.com/t4159-lizard-pattern-used-by-few-francophone-african-country
The pattern existing in various cut garment
It is also the same pattern than the old Cyprus lizard

The print and fabric are identical to those employed in these mystery "Chinese lizard" uniforms, they were probably made by the same people and sold all over the developing world. Definitely not French however.
