    Hi guys,

I finally had time to make better pictures of this shirt. See also: https://iacmc.forumotion.com/t5571-please-id-this-shirt

I tend to say Syria but I would like to hear your opinions.

I agree it's probably Syrian. If it didn't have the pleats I'd say for sure it is, but mine (and pics I have) don't have pleats. I know little about how this uniform was constructed over time so I'm comfortable with the thought some have pleats.

The fact that it is taken in at the back may point this to be a custom made shirt for somebody - perhaps a parade shirt. The extra pleat-age on the front pockets may be just a cosmetic feature. Just fishin' ....

Good point! No labels either, which is in my experience is unusual for a Syrian item. A tailor made item would not likely have a label short of the tailor's own (if he has one).

Thanks for your replies. If I compare the pattern with other Syrian items in other peoples collection my pattern is different. Or am I missing something?

I only have one older version Syrian jacket to look at and it isn't the same print as this one. However, it would be unusual for a Middle Eastern country to have no variation in their patterns over the years or by manufacturer. In fact, if this jacket is custom made (and I think it is), that might also explain why the print isn't identical.

Putting aside the pleats of the pockets, the overall features are identical to my Syrian jacket. The epaulettes are, in particular, a design few nations use, but Syria definitely does. The chest pockets are also the right shape and size with two exposed buttons. Simple button front and cuffs.

I think it is safe to assume this is Syrian unless someone can show you that it is something else.

    Hi Steve,

I think I have to agree with you that's is highly probable Syrian. Let's hope someone can confirm for 100%.
