PLEH - Real or Knock off? Empty PLEH - Real or Knock off?

    Hi there

I found this on an internet shop

PLEH - Real or Knock off? L_ny%20esp

Under the name - Nyhet! Rip-Stop M/2000 med digitaltrykk

I think it mean Rip-stop M2000 Digital Camo. Is it real stuff or just a MARPAT Knock off posting as M2000 digital? (It does look a bit like MARPAT)

Never seen it before and will assume commercial until someone proves otherwise. There's all kinds of digital type uniforms that are based on national patterns. DPM, AUSCAM, Flecktarn, Pantera, and others I'm probably forgetting about. None are government issued.

The picture is from the webpages of Cato Ringstad AS:
    http://www.cato-ringstad.no/contents/no/d1.html

The company makes/ made uniforms for the Norwegian Armed Forces, but the uniforms you pick up from this dealer (he sells some of the uniforms to the civillian marked as well) will not be be an official Norwegian uniform. It will be very close, but in the end not the real deal and without the shield on the tag. Is there a possibility these kind of unifoms will be used by soldiers in the Norwegian Armed Forces? Oh yes, but that's another discussion.

I have done some more digging on this uniform and it turns out that it's issued as a test uniform for the Norwegian forces in Afghanistan. There is a picture of it on the front page of the web site:
    http://www.cato-ringstad.no/index.html

I also found a picture on the Norwegian Armed Forces web site with this uniform that said "The soldier in front is wearing a Norwegian test uniform" and it looks like the same as the one on the Cate Ringstad website. How these test uniforms are labelled or marked is unknown, so I don't know if it's possible to seperate a military issued one from a uniform purchased by a private person.

    okay.........so......kinda confused...

Let me sum up the situation.

The uniform is issued to soldier in Afghanistan and is made by the company that website belong to. However, there are no gurantee that the uniform is an original issue or just a civilian issue?

    Then i have two questions

1.) If i cannot get official uniform from the website that make those kind of uniform, where can i get issue. I mean do they sell them at surplus store or anywhere??
2.) What is the different between the Civilian one and the issued one, apart from the shield you mentioned.

    Many thanks, Mr Norbn Smile

I can see why you are confused and it's really hard to explain how the system works, but I'll try to answer your questions.
1: All the equipment issued (except for a few items usually worn out after a short period of time, like t-shirts or sneakers) are the Armed Forces property and you will have to turn it back in again when you are done with the service. If an item is worn out and you need to change it, the key to do this is the shield on the tag. This show it's a government issue and you can trade it in for a new one. Because of this there are very few Norwegian uniforms found at the few surplus stores that exist, but you can find older types of uniforms like the M75 or M98.

2: I believe the tag with the shield and the Norwegian flag on the arm are different from the government issue and a privatly purchased one.

As far as I know, yes. Maybe the velcro for the patches/ badges as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

    Cool info! Thanks.

Here's a fairly common thing. A company makes a uniform, standard or test, for a military and so it is official. They have more cloth and cloth is expensive to have sitting in the warehouse. So they make more uniforms either exactly the same or with changes either to make them less expensive to produce or to make the government happy with it (i.e. some governments, like Canada, do not want exact copies of their uniforms).

My guess is the uniforms available on the website are like the above. I doubt the Norwegian military would allow them to sell the test samples when testing is not yet complete. Later on, after there is an official uniform or it is rejected, is a different story.

Sometimes only the commercial item exists, no official government contract. But special forces or other units privately purchase the uniforms and use them in Afghanistan or Iraq. Sometimes the camouflage is the same, but the cut is different. Or both are different. This means there is no difference between the uniform purchased on the Internet or a shop.
