Hey, this is rapid change for "Big Army". Finally dumping the UCP (Officially, "Universal Camouflage Pattern", frequently known as "Useless Camouflage Pattern")in favor of patterns that, you know, conceal the wearer. Only took eight years.

Old news from 2009 that some blogger found and didn't look at the original publication date.

Since nobody can think for themselves any more, they saw this blogger regurgitating this ancient article as "new" and proceeded to reblog it as "new".

I don't know when they're going to get rid of ACU but I can tell you that Dr Rich looked very fetching in his on exercise with the National Guard this month Smile

The US Army would be better off going back to Woodland and 3-color DCU's IMVHO. If it ain't broke, don't fix it !

. . . except those patterns are "broken", too.

It is my opinion that the military brass will never buy a camouflage pattern that does what it's supposed to do (breaks up the outline of what it's applied to) because those patterns "look funny" or have "weird colors".

The brass seems to want "fashion camo", but not necessarily "functional camo".

Actually, that's not completely correct. Multi-cam began issue in late 2009 as a theater-only issue/wear item for Afghanistan deployments only.
Up until now, the standard US Army pattern was UCP, and contracts continued to be let and it was still in current production. This decision will cancel further contracts for UCP items and more contracts will be let for MC items, and possibly digital Woodland and Desert-style patterns as well.
Actually, keeping UCP as an urban pattern isn't a terrible idea, as it does work fairly well in that environment-but almost nowhere else.

You don't initiate a competition for new uniforms if you like what you have.
